Title: CV-580, CV-640 and other piston to turboprop conversions?
Post by: wingman on April 07, 2022, 09:19:08 PM
I have noticed that in the Age of Flight world the DC-8 70 series are featured. These were (are) conversions of DC-8 60 series planes, with the original P&W engines replaced with CFM ones.

I am wondering why the conversions from CV-240/340/440 to turboprop CV-580 and CV-640 are not included in the game. They were very popular in the U.S. in the 60s and 70s among the regional carriers and many remained in operation until the second half of the 1980s.

I am asking because I entered the Age of Flight game world in the late 1960s expecting to see some CV-580 or CV-640 pop up sooner or later in the Used airplanes market, but I have found out that they are not included.

Some less successful Martin 4-0-4 conversions were also produced, albeit in very limited numbers.

As this game world includes also airplanes which were not successful and therefore not mass-produced in real life (like the Canadian Avro jetliner), I am wondering why the above turboprop conversions have not been included.

I second this. I've long wondered why no CV-580 especially! Significant numbers of these operated all around the world in the early '80s.

Similarly there's a conversion for the DC-3 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basler_BT-67) though I imagine fitting this in meaningfully during the game's usual window of operations probably won't work since planes in AWS tend to become functionally useless sooner than their realworld counterparts

The VFW 614 laughs at this statement in agreement.
