Title: Best Regional Turboprop
Post by: Antoine on May 19, 2021, 02:56:27 PM
What is everyone's opinion on the best turboprop on the game for routes from <100nm all the way to 500nm+ with over 70pax/day
I'm not talking about Regional Jets.

-Dash 8 Q400
-ATR42/72
-DeHavilland Dash-8-300 A/B/E
-Saab 2000
-An-140
-Anything else you think deserves a mention.

Saab is my favourite (often overlooked by others). Only if it were a bit larger...

Q400 for the given constraints. Saab is special but would leave some cash on the table. One Q400 frequency will fill demand & earn you more money than anything else here.

Kind of depends on your needs too. The Q400 is the best plane overall considering its speed advantage to go with its size. But the ATRs and SAABs come out significantly earlier and can hold their own for years themselves. Being able to get the fleet earlier is a significant advantage to both cost savings due to inflation and being able to get more years of use potentially out of the AC.

Agreed.

AN140 makes sense if you have no cash and need to expand quickly...

Depending on the demand of your base the ATR can also make a lot of sense.
The ATR42 is pretty good on 25-50 seat routes and the 72 in the latter versions can seat 50-78 iirc.
Gives you a pretty decent low end plane!

The Bae ATP and Il.114 deserve honourable mentions too.

It depends on the era of the game and where you're playing. They're both pretty similar to the ATR72 but not quite as "good". I like the ATP because it's a little bit bigger than the ATR 72 (but carries a bit less cargo), burns less fuel than the early ATR models and is often available a little earlier.  I guess I've got a soft spot for the ATP as I used to see them a lot at Manchester as a kid and they were built just a few miles from my home. A very underappreciated aircraft.

The Il.114 can be fun if you want to try something different and it is the only Medium size aircraft available new from the manufacturer as a full freighter. It's also pretty cheap!

The NAMS YS.11 works really well in Japan (no surprise there) but I consider than an earlier generation aircraft, to be compared to the F.27/F50

Realistically I usually end up with the Saab 2000 or Q400 by the end of the game.  Neither are as efficient as the ATR overall but they suit my style of gameplay - i.e. they let me get higher statistics (more destinations due to range/speed) even if I make a little less money doing so.

It depends on the era. The F27 is great for the 60s into the 80s, as is the Convair 440 (except for shorter runways). Both of them have great great range and are very efficient.

side question : does the NAMC have a chapter 3 upgrade? Enough to last until the A140?

thanks a lot. My HaTF game is not doomed, therefore.
