Title: ESAD value only considers pax payload?
Post by: Tom White on January 08, 2021, 05:46:10 PM
When planing a route there is the extra information regarding air distance and ESAD displayed when hovering over the "?". ESAD seems to only cover max pax payload?

As I am fan of maximizing belly cargo, how do I find out if the route is actually capped? I am aware of the performance graphs on the aircraft information page, but how do I get this info on route planing side with winds etc.?

The route planing page gives you the equivalent still air range for the route so you use that to check the graph on the aircraft information page. You do need to do some leg work here  8)

Ok, I think I have it and probably was looking for more convenience  ::).

Example:

Route
KIAD-KSFO EASD 2511nm
KSFO-KIAD EASD 2094nm

Aircraft
B727-200Adv +11MTOW
nominal stil-air range 2520nm
@mtow 2145nm

First leg no limits on pax but no cargo
Return leg no limitation

Thank you! :)

First leg no limits on pax but no cargo

It's limited to 163 pax. So if you have 161 seats, you'll still get ~200kg of cargo. If your config is 150 seats, you'll still get ~1300kg of cargo.

If the limit is less than the maximum pax the plane can carry (180? in this case) then it will be displayed. So if you have 161 seats, anything that shows as no limits will give you at least ~1900kg of cargo. For most planes, this is convenient enough. Anything displayed as no limits will give you close enough to full cargo, in a lot of cases it will give you full cargo because the belly is volume-limited rather than weight-limited. Anything with a limit displayed, you'll get ~100kg of cargo capacity for every pax difference between what you're supplying and what the limit is.

The only place it's inconvenient and you might want to look at range maps is flying combis.

Yes, the plane I am using in the above example has 161 seats.

I do use some B721-C as well and this is where I was a little surprised. I then had to add a techstop on the first leg and re-working the whole schedule. Hence my other question regarding avoiding double slots cost, which was perfectly answered.
