Title: Maintenance timing effect on delays
Post by: LordHorder on January 02, 2021, 11:56:46 AM
I seem to have higher delays than I'd expect given the turnaround times I use, does scheduling maintenance very close to flight times have an effect (as in can A and B checks overrun) and cause delays?

No, they can't.

Are your delays due to short turnarounds? Or are they due to weather and other things?

If they are due to short turnarounds, are you using the proper length turnarounds at your HQ? Have seen plenty of people make sure to use 70 min turns for 1% chance at every destination, but their next HQ departure is as soon as allowed, for a 40 min turn and 25% delay chance.

Thanks for the reply, about 30% are usually rotation and running at 80-85% delays, always set turnaround to below 5% and make sure the next flight is the same gap, need to look at what else it might be then!

Could be location and weather. In certain hubs, there will always be delay in winter due to weather for example. My old LHR airline was 97% ontime in the summer and 85% in the winter no matter what.
