Title: Aircraft Price Negotiation
Post by: Tuckernut on March 03, 2020, 03:07:52 PM
When you order airplanes now it shows "negotiate" prices but all I  can determine is that the system grants you a small discount for large purchases or long leases.

I would like to be able to negotiate the prices using criteria such as your credit rating, size of order and whether purchased or leased.  In reality, airlines that order a large number of aircraft receive very preferential pricing--estimated in many cases to be as much as 50% off "list" price.  I don't realistically see that happening in the game but I would think a 15% reduction would be doable.

Down the road I would like to be able to play one manufacturer off against another--if I am looking at 777 and A330's, let the manufacturers bid for my business if I put of "Letter of Interest" based on the range, payload and price of the aircraft.

FYI:

- for leases there is up to 8.2% discount on big orders (20% for purchases)
- for long lease periods there is up to 8% discount
- for orders there is up to 6% discount for money-down (depending on the amount of downpayment)
- and then there is 10% discount for launch customers for the first 45 days after AC launch

which one of these would you want to make bigger/smaller?
would you want a different discount?

I have been generally ordering in smaller batches of 5-20 aircraft at one time so the most I have seen is a 1.9% discount and maybe a .5% discount for a long lease.  That could be why I am not seeing bigger discounts.  It is east t get over-enthusiastic and commit to a type that is not really appropriate for your fleet.  Found that out in one game with the 707-100 non-fan series.  Ugh.  Should have turned those into taco stands.

Also, with the commonality system we have, making the manufacturers bid against each other really would make no sense except if 2 similar types launch at the same time.

"Save the line" Discount should be added, when it announced that line X will be closed soon.

25% at least.

I strongly disagree on this one. A line about to close goes with "this aircraft is very cheap and could be a bargain if you need it". Want 25% on top of that? ??? Wouldn't you want to be paid to get the aircraft, also?

I mean, the only situation where such a discount would make sense is in the case of model with variants. "Ah, the A320-100 prod line is about to close". But the density of orders for other variants keeps the whole family price up. Ok, ok. But who the hell wants large numbers of A320-100? Or DC-8-10, DC-10-10, etc.?
