Title: About promotion of new routes
Post by: Tomcat on August 27, 2008, 08:49:52 AM
Just a question here...
Do routes follow strictly historical values?
Or is it possible to open a route without that much demand and then advertise it and hope it becomes a well used turistic route?
For example... I've noticed that in all the route plannings from MVD, UY, my HQ's location, into USA, the demand is nonexisting... whilst in real life, AA has set up a non-stop weekly flight MVD-MIA with quite some success...
Does this happen here?
Thanks!

You can send the real life demand to Sami.

Yes I know, thanks... but it´s just that I do not have the numbers to back that info up.
I´ll see if I can gather some of it.

use this method if you have no official data:
MVD-MIA is serve by a AA 763 daily.
seats provided (225) X 365days X 70% (the general year avg LF of a legacy airlines) X 2 (return, forgot sami want one way or return data  :-\)=57487(one way)114975(return)
so the demand from MVD-MIA is about 157 passenger per day.

Yeah well, they don´t fly everyday... Anyways... it´s too little to worry about... if I find anything I´ll send it over.

MVD gets route subsidies which is why its flown. Also remember that MIA is AA second largest hub and one which routes all 738 traffic to. That means that route is getting filled from passengers from pretty much everywhere east of the Missisippi and a few points west.

No hubbing in this game means it has to have enough O/D demand to support it, which it likely doesnt have.

Just IMO of course.

Yeah well, there's not only MIA, but MAD IB flights and a lot of flights within South America itself... I mean, when I checked the demand between MVD and RIO or SAO... it was null :o.
But it doesn't matter, maybe it'll change as time goes by and besides, I cannot pretend for this game to have everything modelled perfectly.
