Title: Game World #2 (6/17 - 2/19) end results
Post by: Sami on February 08, 2019, 02:13:02 PM
The ultra-long Game World #2 has ended today. The game started already in June 2017 and ended in February 2019, and the toughest airline managers enjoyed more than 1.5 years of continuous business decisions. The scenario started in 1950 and ended 2035 making it so far our longest simulation scenario ever. Remarkably 49 CEOs played this scenario all the way from the start to end.

Don't forget to pre-join the next GW#2, starting later in February. You can pre-join the scenario here: https://www.airwaysim.com/game/?gView=289#game289

The final statistics of this epic game world are here. Our congratulations to the top players!

Good game everybody. I didn't think I'd go to the 8th position in scoring starting in Poland. It's possible!!!

Even though I got a little distracted and lowered my attention in the last 2 years, it's quite pleasant to see this world finally come to an end, and see us all standing here, almost 2 years after the start.
And I must say that for my 2nd GW (and 1st from scratch), I'm quite proud to have finished in the top 20, being #1 for 10 years in a row without any competition, and finishing with a 1400 a/c fleet ;D

Congrats to all of you!

I loved it. 86 years was amazing. The only critical item on my list is the initial demand boost followed by 50 years of no to very slow demand growth. This has been a problem in other game worlds but this one, with the 1950 start combined with the overwhelming popularity of this specific game at the start, was particularly bad. Just to move from 40 pax Convairs to 65-80 pax Caravelles to 90-120 pax DC-9's to 125-160 pax 737's required massive seat blocking with precisely zero expansion from 1955 to 2005. It severely hurt playability for a full 10 months. This is the biggest issue with early start game worlds and IMO is something that needs attention and some sort of a rework before another 50's era game starts.

Agree to this. Not perhaps literally, but in essence.

P.S. - I like your new signature.

There's a lack of precision, though. Maybe "38 8/12" would suit better.

Lol, thanks! It seems to be the "in" thing to do these days  ;)

To clarify, there was GROWTH in demand, it was just very slow. IIRC it was posted that demand growth was .1-.2% where expected average growth would be 1-2%. EXPANSION was really only possible through base openings and demand made reachable by longer range aircraft. Moving to newer (and thus larger) aircraft during the first half of the game more than kept up with demand growth prompting the seat blocking requirements.

Nice game to everyone.   In addition to the 49, I counted another 18 that started somewhere between Jan 2, 1950 and 1960...so assuming some early re-dos and even some later ones, pretty awesome to see the commitment through this longest game ever!...plus the introduction of the cargo mid-flight.

I definitely feel like I'm about to turn 86 after this one though
