Title: Tu-144
Post by: Antoine on September 16, 2018, 03:31:54 PM
I know there was 1 guy on here who made a thread about operating the Concorde efficiently and it worked. Just wondering if anyone has managed the same with the Tu-144 ever. Can't see how it could be done over a longer time period

I'm that 1 guy.
Tu-144 is a weaker aircraft because of its high fuel consumption and shorter range, making fewer routes viable.
I would say, you can probably do it profitably if you are based in LHR (where demand is high and competition is limited by slot restrictions), and you use a high F/C configuration and high ticket prices.

You might also be able to do it in a big base like JFK or CDG if you happen to have little or no local competition. But once competitors come with their low-operating-cost aircraft, you'll struggle.

If you really want to play supersonics, I would highly recommend the Concorde instead of the Tu-144.
