Title: Base Airports
Post by: Williamsfilms on April 17, 2009, 09:09:53 PM
I just joined the Air Travel Boom game, and it has so far been pretty fun planning everything for my airline. I do however have 1 question. It says that you can only have departures from you base airport. Does this mean that you can only have 1 base airport? Or can you add more. I ask this because in RL most airlines have several hubs from which they have departures. Thank you for your help.

In this game its only one hub, and all your flights have to depart from there.
But I think this will change in future... lets hope!

What you can do is, for example a flight departing for your base (airport A) to a destination (airport B),
and then to an other destination (airport C) from airport B.

Then you have: A - B - C - B - A.

Hope this helps you.

How exactly can you do that? Forgive my stupid questions.

when you are planning a route, after you selected your first stop, scroll down to the bottom of the screen and there you have the chance of adding another stop.
on the next screen, you can choose if you want to fly A-B-C-B-A or A-B-C-A. there you can also choose if the stop at b will only be for refueling. with this option you are able to fly routes that would be too long for your plane if going nonstop

This is a very useful tool - you can effectively open two or three hubs using this method. Not ideal, but ok until a multi-hub system has been introduced.

I think in one of the Beta games there was an airline operating from some Australian/New Zealand airport, which however was not enough for him, so he ended up having another hub by letting all his planes fly there, and thus he had some 3000 capacity on a route with some 200 passengers  ;D

You can do it that way, or you can do W flights which means there is no flooding a route with too many seats. I do that from Rome with flights going FCO-AAA-LIN-AAA-FCO and FCO-BBB-MXP-BBB-MXP. It works quite well but depends on your particular set up I guess.
