Title: Slot distribution adjustment
Post by: qunow on September 27, 2017, 04:11:07 AM
When I'm adjusting my aircraft schedule, I found out that the 2255 departure time in a particular day from a particular airport is already full, which I wanted to schedule a departure at that time. As I found out I have other flights departing from the same airport at the same time, I changed the departure time of that flight from 2255 to 2250. However, Why I still cannot add my flight to 2255 after such adjustment?

there seems to be two levels

1) are there slots at that time, ie 2255
2) are there slots in that hour

so by moving the flight from 2255 to 2250 you've created an empty slot on one level, but sadly not on the other! if the hour can only have, say, 30 departures an hour and that limit has been reached then moving a departure within the hour does NOT create a free slot. But when the hourly rate goes to 31 in the future then I'd expect 2255 to be one of the 5 minute slots to show up as empty.

Hope this clarifies things,

Simon

Thanks for your explanation, Simon.

Nonetheless, I experienced something similar but that your explanation doesn't seem to... well, explain ;)
I cancelled a series of slots at 0500, completely changing the departure.
When (like 5 seconds later - I'm careful with those 0500 slots ;D) I clicked "confirm" for another flight with a 0500 departure, it said there was none. But strangely, 0510 became available while before it was not ???

Is there something more that I missed?

Slots are weird...  ???

Using a slot at 0510 affects how many slots are available at 0505 and 0515.

You know how if you look at the slot page and it shows 0500-0525 sold out, but the scheduling page tells you there are 7 slots available at 0515? It's letting you schedule the flight with the understanding that there's going to be a queue for the runway and you're going to get dinged for delays, and it's adjusting the available slots before and after 0515. It's a bit like deficit spending: "borrowing" slots from later in the hour to let everyone who wants to advertise a departure at 0515 to do so when the flight's not going to realistically leave the runway until well after 0535. Just like in real life.

Ok, thanks. Even though it's still a bit strange to release 0500 and get 0510 as compensation.

Ok for the real life delays. But in the game, that would mean that every slot-tight airport will be be affected with a lot of delays, no matter what you do. Or not?

There are still lots of free slot in all other minutes within same hour.
