While waiting for the game (or beta) to start, lets find out what period of time would be most popular.

So pick up your favourite from the list, and tell us why.

1. 1950-1970 Large propliners (DC-6, Constellation...) were replaced by early jetliners (Comet, Caravelle...)
2. 1960-1980 Boeing started intercontinental jet-age with 707, Douglas followed with DC-8
3. 1970-1990 Planes get bigger. Which will make winners in the game, B747, DC-10 or L1011 ?
4. 1980-2000 A or B? That is Airbus or Boeing, A320 or B737, A300 or B767, A340 or B777
5. 1976-2001 Faster than sound, but can you make money with it?
6. 1950-2010 Only for serious simmers... Who can make it all the way? (warning, this would take +300 days to play)

Thanks for the poll, was about to make that for the beta.

However I think that first beta will be approx 10 years of game time. Probably some 1980ish starting year.

Yeah, I was thinking of time after beta. Just to give you some idea what scenarios people are most interested to play.

(had to start my postings with something special... ;))

Yeah, something like that would be most interesting for me - modern time.
Or maybe 1991 - 2020, from the day Soviet falls apart..

I chose the "lets play it all the way" option as I think it's more fun to get attached to a company and make long term decisions and see those strategies play out over an extended period of time.

It's also interesting to see throughout history the rise and fall of great airlines like Pan Am, TWA, Eastern, etc.. I'm not sure if that's something that would happen in this game if the airline was tended to properly, but it is interesting how conditions change and if the airline doesn't respond appropriately, they are toast.

We have a huge advantage over TWA or PanAm.  Since the world in AirwaySim is based on history, people should not be caught unawares by such things as fuel costs or deregulation.

I'm happy to see there is also other "freaks" like me, ready to play over 300 days to go through the history of airlines ;)

But I'm not sure, if the game should be 100% historically correct, or should it have more or less alternative events. Let's say Constellation is available to all airlines, there wouldn't be energy crisis in 1973 (maybe another year, to keep it surprise) and some aircraft models don't have the technical failures they had IRL (or maybe some other models will have). And Concorde may fly as long as we like :)

although probably not realistic for a beta test, I would be in for an all the way game.

I'm kind of a nostalgic person, back in the days with propellor planes :-)

My other option would be 1980-2000.

I'm ready to fly my passengers around down under :-)

I also voted for all the way. Would be to long for a beta test though  :(

I voted for the "all the way" option because it would be fun to build your airline and have it transition through all the eras, but for me the best would be about 1970-2010.

This is undoubtedly the glory years in aircraft at least for airlines with multiple choices for multiple route lengths. This start would definately need some descent starting capital as aircraft arent cheap in this era.

MYK

Ya the 1991 - 2015 era is great.  Still Airbus vs. Boeing but very expensive.
