Title: Difficult one ... Any advice please ... One for Sami as well please
Post by: Solemus on January 13, 2015, 12:35:43 PM
I have two members of my alliance that have a couple of bases in the same places, I know that it's against the rules of the game, but, one of members joined quite a while ago and the other joined after him.
It's not intentional on they're part and I can't ask either of them to give up their bases, that would be wrong of me, I cannot ask either of them to leave the alliance, that would also be wrong of me.

What can I do? Any advice would be appreciated.
Sami can you step in here to please.

As per the current rules it's one alliance member per each airport. [simple]

In the future I am hoping to make the system better so that members could co-operate for example so that other is the 'mainline' carrier while the other does regional work etc.

In my opinion the Alliance Mangers made an error in accepting the 2nd member if it then resulted in a clash of bases
in which case you have only have 2 options available -
1. expel the 2nd accepted member
2. one of them HAS to give up the base

No exception(s) should be made otherwise everyone will have a 'valid reason' to double-up triple-up etc on bases

for madrid, one is base, one is HQ, it's quite obvious what action to take.
in return, the other airline close Palma De Mallorca since he gets madrid.

that is if you want to make it sound 'fair' as stated to your original post. The rule exist before GW1 started, so really there is no real excuse to this, take the mistake and try and make sure it won't happen again as this will not make either of the airline happy.

Or simply ask one to resign from the alliance.

Most if not every alliance has made this mistake one way or another before and has to make difficult choice.

Okay I will give them both a PM asking them to give up their bases which are in the same places or ask one of the to resign

Rules are rules after all but it is a difficult one

Thank you all for your help

Quoted for truth.

Base/territory management as well as route sharing guidelines within an alliance can be a royal PITA. Not usually an issue with a 5-10 airline alliance without geographic overlap, but once you get to 20+ members, it gets complicated as you're not only managing for the "betterment of the alliance" but also managing 20+ different egos that can get butthurt for various reasons.

Ninja edit to add a pro-tip: OP, your alliance has too many members in the US. You guys will be stepping on each other's toes left and right. Good luck managing that!

Not difficult at all - you made a mistake accepting the second member. So either he must leave again or come to a mutual arrangement with the other airline about bases.

I had this same issue when I was manager a couple of game worlds ago.  Actually, the first member started off at that base, and the second member opened up there without consulting the first member.  The first member PMed me saying he was furious and if this wasn't addressed ASAP, he was going to resign.  I PMed the second member asking him to close his base and before I received a reply, the first member resigned.  Before this became a rule according to Sami, I made it a rule in my alliance that no members are to share bases...

Hi OP, it seems there is another problem on your side in GW1 too. It seems that you have 2 alliance members based in HYD airport in regional India.

I have sent a PM to the owner of Aero India asking him to close his base within 24 hours as he opened his base after the other player
Thank you for bringing it to my attention
