how is pax demand distributed if there is more supply than demand? what is maths behind that?
Nobody knows and the obvious things (price) don't have much effect... some people would kill to get the formula into their hands. :)
The only thing I know is that whoever has several flights, separated one from other, gets the more pax.
If I've got flights at 6, 10, 14 & 18, and my opponent has flights at 6 & 15, I'll get roughly 2/3rds of the trafic.
If his flights are at 14h45 and 14h50, I'll get 4/5ths of the pax, as its flights are too narrow, and will count only as one.
Note that I made that mistake once. I had 3 flights, 1 at 16h50, one at 11h25, and one at 11h35. Fill rate was 96%, 65% and 65%. Nos that they are at 16h50, 10h45 & 11h40, fill rates are 96%, 92% and 93%. With increased prices.
Company Image also helps, and route image...I think.

The simple answer is "evenly". If there is 400 demand and there are 4 flights, you can expect 100 pax per flight. If you are flying a 125 seat aircraft, you can get 100% load factor by dropping your prices. If you are flying a 75 seat aircraft, you can raise your prices and still get 100% load factors. There are a bunch of other factors at play (company image, route image, takeoff time, etc), but those are the basics.
