Title: Sub lease an aircraft
Post by: JumboShrimp on June 12, 2014, 07:16:13 PM
Is this thing ever done in RL?  Say airline has a 15 year lease, but for a period of time, the airline does not want to use the aircraft.  Does it happen that an airline would sublease an aircraft?

And if so, could something like that be modeled in AWS?

I could see sub-leasing being useful for an airline that is planning a fleet transition, and intends to make the transition quicker.  So for example, the airline could sub-lease first 1-2 years of deliveries of the new aircraft, after this time, the airline would get 2x rate of deliveries, both new and returning sub-leases.

Also, some airlines could make a quick buck if they spot an inexpensive aircraft on UM, but that of course has its risks...
