You forgot Adobe Photoshop! I don't have a livery right know, but that's what I use for that sort of things.

yeah weird that you forgot the most popular one, i use adobe photoshop cs2.
what gets best results depend on what you're comfortable with, they all pretty much do the same thing and the spiffy features are usually not even used. i think gimp is easy to use or learn how to use but its more difficult once you're used to a program and try to move to a new one, getting used to the new layout is a long tedious journey.
for sure i can't draw anything with a mouse, tablets all the way
