Im sure this has been discussed before but is there any way to sell/ exchange slots that you have with other users?
I have a number of Late night slots at LHR that will be less useful to me once quicker aircraft are on the market, whilst these would no doubt be useful to another player wanting to fly East.
Is there anyway we could swop, buy or sell slots to/ with each other?
This would be an additional very interesting aspect of the game, although I suspect open to abuse unless tightly managed!
No, not possible. Because of your mentioned reasons, and because you don´t own any slots. You pay a kind of "entrance fee" to the owner (state or airport) and don´t get any refund if you don´t use and lose them.
You do in effect own them though, if only on a leasehold basis and there is already a supply and demand aspect to their purchase.
It would certainly add an extra layer to the game, even if it was only trading slots that was allowed. I wont want to give up my LHR slots as even sub optimal ones will still be hugely valulable to me, whilst Im sure by swapping them with another slot holder at LHR, we could both benefit.
It would be v fun having a slot market, where you could package up slots for sale!
It´s warming up an old discussion anyways. Was turned down like any other "trading" ,"betting","auction","stock market" or likewise request in the past.
Slot system in general (especially LHR) was discussed endlessly. Existing system was regarded best compromise.
With planned new PAX demand system LHR congestion will ease because you can use the other London airports to serve London area demand in general.
Was it discounted due to the technical development side of things (to big a project), or simply that there was no way that any system could not be exploited?
The current system works, its definitely a compromise though and Im sure leads to people holding onto slots that could be better exploited by others, simply as there is no incentive to let them go.
I guess trades probably happen behind closed doors between Alliance members, simply by users giving up slots at the same time, so you instantly take them, which I guess fulfills the requirement somewhat.
I think it would be hard to exploit a trade system, as there would be no real advantage to slot blocking, if you could only trade for other slots within the same airport, I suspect it would require a fair bit of development though
Whether you sell or trade slots, you are up to buy slots for other purposes than using them for your flights. Slot hogging just for your future expansion plans is already forbidden, your proposal would just boost that process, hogging slots for trade with others. It would turn LHR to a closed party for about three big boys, without anyone having a chance to even fly in there when game progresses. To prevent that you would have to start a whole system of balancing rules and controls. It wouldn´t be more fun at all.

Trading Slots within an airport wouldn't. Slots are only valuable if you can utilise them so why would you hog a load of slots to trade, that you would then just swap for other slots?
I have some circa 10PM slots out of LHR that will, once jets come about not be ideal for me but will still be far to valuable to simply give up, as they will still make me a tonne of money. Meanwhile, someone else may have some midday slots but really want some late night ones for a flight East. Simply trading slots would be beneficial to both parties without infringing others ability to grow at an airport.
As I say re buying and selling slots, it would be hard to ensure it was not exploited. If rules could be set up however to govern this, it would be very fun new aspect of the game. You could give up slots to help fund a new base/ fleet etc. In fact having to give
As it is, it looks like all the major airports are pretty much already locked down after 1 year of JA, there is no chance a start up would survive at the big airports now, if they were able to get any flights out in the first place!

Sounds like an interesting challenge...
I just joined, and picked a top 10 airport. We'll see how it goes...
Good luck!
