I have a regional airline at the moment, where my longest flights are under 600nm (a lot more practical in the release version than it was in some of the beta games, for sure). It's ALL short range. I use a lot of DHC-8-100/300 and BAe 146 (being replaced by Avro RJ). As the CRJ's mature and I start looking to longer distances, they'll probably find a place as well.

Not sure what I'll do about larger, medium-range planes though.

Here is what it is right now:

Thin demand domestic/Short Range Intl. - ATR-42s
All Domestic routes - MD-80s
High demand domestic routes - A300B4s

I know, Its a weird fleet.

But I cant exactly tell you what it will actually be in the future... but here is what it may look like:

B757-200s
B737-700s
B737-800s
SAAB 2000s... to be replaced by Dash-8-400s in 2000-ish.

And 2 unnamed aircraft.... Suprises though....  ;D

I seperate mostly by demand, not distance.  With that said:

Longhaul - I only use the A310-300 for my international/ Hawaii routes, since it's the only thing I have that is capable.  Also, it shares fleet commonality with....

Domestic, High Capacity - A310-200.  I use this aircraft on my triangle routes that feature a high demand or a solid demand for business class seating, of which this aircraft has 14.

Domestic, Mainline - The MD-80 family.  Honestly, this is the best aircraft in the game as of 1994.  Why?  Availability comes to mind first.  You can find these for leased in the used pile very easily, and at a good price.  Keeping them in good shape isn't terribly expensive, they hold 155 without reconfiguration, and there are a ton of models.   From the MD-88 with its long legs, to the MD-87 with just the right capacity and range for low demand routes over 1500 miles......the MD-80's have you covered.  There's a reason that American Airlines has used this plane as its workhorse for so many years.

Domestic, Regional - Fokker 50.  I use it because it's easy to get, cheap, and has the seats I need for low demand routes under 400 miles.  Anything over 400 miles usually goes to my jets.

In the future:

Domestic, Low Capacity, Over 400 miles - Haven't decided between the CRJ or the ERJ.

Short, Low Demand - ATR-42
Short-Medium, High Demand and Medium-Long - MD80, B757
Extremely Long, Low Demand - Still to be decided
Extremely Long, High Demand - A340

Currently (Feb 1994):

6x ATR 42 for South Korea domestic
1x CRJ 100 ER for low-density China and Japan
1x 727-200A for mainline
2x 737-300 for mainline
1x MD-82 for mainline
1x 757-200 for high-density mainline

By mid-1995 (current orders only):

7x ATR 42 for South Korea domestic
6x CRJ 100 ER/LR for low-density China and Japan
10x 737-300/400/500 for mainline
3x 757-200 for high-density mainline

A few years later:
Will buy a few widebodies for Europe and North America

Short: BAC One Eleven 500 (Medium Demand)
             - Dassault Mirage (High Demand)
Medium: Tri Star 100's

Long Range: Tri Star 500's - Transition to MD11 within 6 years. (Also 6 years due to long waiting list)

Short: RJ70/85/100
Short/Medium: 737-300/400
Medium/Long: 767-200ER/300ER

Not enough demand out of ZRH for anything much bigger than a 763.

I'm using Fokker 100's on my short haul work, plenty of seats and good economy
Medium and Long Haul using a mixture of 752/763ER/742/747SP/744

All with Rolls Royce engines whicih is slowing expansion down  as there are less RR's on used market

Short haul: B733, B743SR, B752, M80.

MD81 is probably the best. Five more on order. M80s and B733s will be replaced by new B734s.

B744D could replace B743SR.

I was hoping to replace B752s with B734s, but as airport slots are out I need to fly the old ladies until B753 becomes available.

Not on enough routes to justify anything larger than a 767 with commonality costs. If the demand is high I just go 2x daily.

Mines fairly simple and efficient

Ireland/ UK regional - ATR72
European Mainland - B737-300 (upgrading to 737-700 when deliveries begin in 98)
flights over 2000nm - B757-200

although i think im going to struggle from here on in, i have too many planes arriving and there isnt the slots to schedule them, I have started leasing out my planes

For my planned LCY airline:

BAe 146s... Then prob a mix of F100s and F70s... Then... CRJ-700s/-900s and Dash-8-400s (of course!).

And then there is on ac that I'm keeping secret... Because I'm going to shock you all with the routes I have planned for it  ;)
