Title: word to the wise
Post by: ban2 on January 24, 2009, 02:32:24 PM
i opened up a new route and rather than starting with relativly new 767 1xday, then moving up to a second 767 1xday = 2 flights/day route then eventually replacing 767s with a 747 when route image built up, i jumped straight in with an old 747 1xday... this is going to prove a costly mistake for 6 months.

i'll think i'll give it a couple of months and if situation does'nt improve i'll cut my losses and replace 747 with a 767.

I thought that I was doing well with my one 747.  Well, I am not.

I am making 100k per day with my one 747.

However, I am BARELY making a net profit.   Those administrative costs are prohibitive.

Mmm 747s eh? Heh.. they are great in international sector.

Domestic? Hm.. you'd have to ask the other airlines I fly against  ;)

international demand from malta is poor, so i'm having to fly it short haul to an airport which has acceptable international demand.

Domestic 747s eh...

Hmmm...

B757s are perfect for me. For certain.. unnamed routes of course.  ;)

They come in about a year haha.

747s are NOT good unless you know what you're doing.

There is a reason why most US airlines have given up on 747s years ago. The only exceptions are those with heavy Asian presences (read: heavy passenger loads).

I will not consider a 747 unless I can actually look forward to filling it to capacity.

You think administrative costs are prohibive? It seems quite cheap compared to having an extra pilot in the cockpit with older planes it really ads up.

BTW on world 1 I have an airline that flies 747's only no other aircraft with 5 747-400's on order (Rather Profitable)

well this 747 has just about finished me :(  lesson learnt don't get too big too soon. I did have a nicely profitable airline, i now have an uphill struggle to revive my profit margins.

i've had to fire lots of staff and reduce marketing costs.

i will see tomorow if my airline will recover from this set back.

well touch wood, i've turned it around i'm now back to making a steady profit. Definatly going to try and boost my short/medium fleet numbers before i jump into any more long haul stuff. Close call phew!
