thanks guys, a goat huh?  ??? ;D Okay I have a question can anyone give me some pointers on making a good profit to cover costs?. I start off okay then I start losing money with costs, my loadings are good and they all make a profit but then there's the other costs, I do a general campaign in marketing and also route specific campaign is this wrong? How about ticket costs? Do I lower them to bring in the punters? Or do I keep them as the computer sets them? I've tried to raise them but this brings the loadings down, I tried to lower them but the loadings stay the same as when I leave them for the computer to set. So would you big time players give little old me a couple of pointers please.

Thanking you in advance

Rick

Have you tried Beginner's World? Starting late in crowded gameworlds like Modern Times is always a problem.

You started with small aircraft. Bigger aircraft generate more profit, for example 757 or A320 etc. While the ATR are a good addition to the bigger ones, the RJ-85 isn't very efficient, especially in high fuel price games like Modern Times.

The routes you are flying are also overcrowded and you compete to airlines that offer higher frequency, have higher route image and higher company image.

So, best advice? Don't start late in a gameworld. Get used to AirwaySim in Beginner's World. Read the FAQ and stop using inefficient small jet aircraft like RJ-85, CRJ200.

1.  Maximize routes to destinations before adding new destinations.  The more places you fly the more expensive marketing is.
2.  Don't add fleet types early on.  Try to get 7-10 of one plane before you add another.  Big penalty once you have 4 fleet types.
3.  Don't over market yourself.  No need for worldwide campaigns when you're flying one 500nm route.  I don't think people in Dubai care about your DCA to ORD route.
4.  Don't raise prices unless you own that route outright.  NEVER have rates above suggested if you're below 100 RI.   I'd suggest starting of at Suggested - 10%.  If you have competition on the route, you will need to figure out what works best.  A full plane with no profit is worse than a 1/2 full plane generating positive cash flow.

Thanks Curse I done pretty good in Beginners world although I did bankrupt several times  for the same reasons, I couldn't get the expenses covered even with high loadings.

Thanks Swift that is what I wanted to know

Even in late gameworlds you can find good spots to start at. Give searching for that spot a good time clicking around, it´s one big decision.
Try to find a spot which in best case is occupied by no other  , or weak/small or competitor. Look out for a spot that has a lot of routes you can cover with one aircraft type and fill these routes before getting another type of aircraft.Look out for routes not too far away you can serve more than once daily.Avoid competing on already saturated markets. Around 10% of income for marketing until CI stops moving up. Route marketing? Maybe not, be patient RI is climbing anyway. Keep spare money for when leasing costs/maintenace kick in.
Be patient, earning money takes time in the beginning.
(as what the others said, only in different words)

greetings
Christian

I've just found out that you can see how much time I've spent on AWS...
(In Forum go to profile and click on show stats)

I joined AWS 1028 days ago..
I spent 149 days online on AWS..
That means I've spent 15% of my life on AWS... Think thats what they call addicted...

if you were to count an average of 8hrs sleep/day then I'd have 685days of awake time since I joined...
that means that 21.7% of my time I'm on AWS...

anyone else out there also this addicted?

Total time online: 215 days, 22 hours and 41 minutes.

% of awake time online:  35.29%  :'(

In my defense, at work I am on for 8+ hours a day, but I only actually spend ~2 hours on AWS. My -actual- percentage is probably more like 16-18%

All online time actually spent online, since neither at work nor at school (earlier) I had been online without doing anything... too lazy to calculate the percentage right now...

Haha, I've noticed that for awhile. I even tried to get Sami to give me access to the [More Stats] link under the total topics and posts section towards the bottom of the forum - main page.
Total Time Spent Online: 93 days, 1 minutes.

I use to be among the top 5 users in time spent.. but that was nearly 2 years ago. Just don't have the time these days.
As you can tell, I have never posted during the 9-10a time frame. I am not a morning person...
