Based on the penniless CEOs I see in these games, I take it that not paying the CEO has no consequences?

Thats correct mate. Just pushes you to the bottom of that statistic. Not sure if that counts towards alliance score anyway. But always a good trick to save pennies when the airline is young.
There was some feature request/idea floating that would make CEO wealth more relevant, but that was in regard to a possible future development allowing transfer/take-over of unwanted/abandoned airlines :

Currently, not paying yourself don't hurt, except for your pride :-[
Just funny to see multi-million dollar airlines with a CEO who sleeps in a cardboard box at night.
true, but it is an executive cardboard box... :)
Well, other airlines CEOs can enjoy their cardboard boxes.
I just gave myself a pay raise.
Because I can.

An airline CEO just gave themselves a raise? Did you ask for permission first?

LOL. Totally funny.

It's not unheard of in the U.S. for CEOs to take no salary. Steve Jobs took no salary at Apple at least one year in exchange for a corporate jet. Some others just get stock options.

That's a PR move more then anything. They always get paid.
