For routes up to 1000nm of range...
Jet or turbo-prop? Which model does make sense?
Fokker 100?
Turbo prop under 400nm, jet over that. It's how I structure my companies, works well.
I like props with low fuel burn for the 1000nm and less, saves on gas for the heavy frequency short haul
1000 nm is already a ~2,5-3 hr flight on a jet.. turboprop for that sector .. ufff... :P
Think of all that quality time in the air
My passengers love the noise, vibration and cramped seats.... It's
Like a free massage with the prop vibration. We sell lots of headsets, and everyone makes new friends being so close.
We purposely don't fix the prop sync So passengers can enjoy the vibration and acoustics.
TPs, stick to 500nm max and that's already pushing it.
I'll agree with swiftus, 500nm is about the max for TurboProps. As for models I'd run any of the following:
- Fokker 50
- Dash 8
- ATR 42/72
For ranges greater than 500nm I'd go the Fokker 100. They are a 100 seater but classified as a medium aircraft, the same as turboprops so you can save money in staffing costs.

I'm switching to an all jet fleet of fokker 70's from LCY atm, a small but I find still decent cash generating jet.

The f-70 or LCY? Just had a look, and the f-70's are outperforming my turboprops in profit. Perhaps down to being able to squeeze just that little extra out of the a/c's due to speed. As fuel is still cheap, it ain't nuffin..

I ran a Fokker 50 and Fokker 70 airline out of LCY in the last modern times, couldn't get it to work :(

It was my third base, was hoping it would be more lucrative..but most routes are pretty crap tbh...though I guess it takes awhile before pax numbers go up much, as I've been told its a pretty decent airport pax wise today..only flown into it once.
Up till now I've been using the dhc-8, but aiming for an all jet airline..whoopdi doo
