Title: Ilyushin Il-62 Anyone have experience?
Post by: Firejet on January 19, 2009, 03:08:52 AM
Hi guys,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has any experience on how to get these aircraft to work. It seems they just use way to much fuel, and i really could use a cheap aircraft that i could use to pass upcoming c checks. All input would be greatly appreciated.

Agree with Sami, proftitable, but there are FAR better aircraft out there. Definately avoid it if it is over 10 years old. But I would advise buying from a western manufacturer, even if it means it costs a bit more.

In my honest opinion, you'd be better off letting the aircraft run their C checks. Replacement aircraft for maintenance are unnecessary anyway, and the lease cost on top of that just wouldn't be worth it.

I have experience with the Il-62. It's awful. It's fuel economy is terrible and its reliability sucks. I have constant delays due to technical problems. And the C check costs 5 times more than what one would on my beloved 737s. I thought the Il-62 would be a cheap way to get me into long haul international flights. Instead its just a quick way to lose a bunch of money. Lucky my lease is 1 year. My C check comes up at 8 months. I'll just park it / terminate my lease at that point.

Well soviets didn't care about fuelburn, or any other thing what affected nature(Nickel mines in Petsamo, Nature was complitely dead near the nickel factory.

And the aircraft had pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer and navigator, if I remember correctly.

It wasn't so much that they didn't care about fuel burn, but they did not have the technology available to them that the west had.

well right flight engineer and navigator and pilots are actualy different jobs, F. engineeers are cheaper salery wise.
