Title: B Check Scheduling (noob question)
Post by: esquireflyer on May 22, 2012, 05:52:18 PM
If I schedule a B check to overlap with only the return leg of a trip (such as overlapping only the LHR-JFK segment of a JFK-LHR-JFK trip), does the outbound still get flown?

Say the schedule is JFK-LHR-JFK-DUB-JFK. And the B check overlaps the two underlined flights.

Does the plane get its B check in LHR, and then teleport to DUB in time for its DUB-JFK return flight, after the scheduled end of the B check)?

Or does the entire JFK-LHR-JFK roundtrip on the first day get canceled, because the plane has to stay in JFK in order to do its B check?
What about the JFK-DUB-JFK part? is the return DUB-JFK canceled because the B check overlaps the outbound JFK-DUB? Or does the plane get to teleport to DUB and fly the usual DUB-JFK?

Thanks!

I imagine the answer is no, if any of the blue stuff on the scheduling screen is overlapped by the B check then the whole flight will not fly. It makes sense logistically as the airplane cannot simply appear in DUB having been serviced in JFK. Therefore, I'd recommend to schedule your B checks to overlap as few flights as possible (better to not fly one than two).

I'll wait for sami to give the definitive answer, though, as there may be some quirks in the code which I simply do not know about.

Hope this helps mate   :)

Thanks Alex! I didn't see you online so I posted here.
(If sami or anyone knows differently, please let me and the other noobs know. :))

I wonder what the logic would be. If you were doing a flight JFK-LHR (incorporating a tech stop here does not make any sense because it does not generate revenue on the legs, only on the entire flight including both legs to LHR) and the check would occur in LHR, and thus skip the return leg, the plane would still be stuck in LHR and only fly back on the next possible return flight.
So, it does not matter if both flights of the overlapped turn are cancelled or only the first return flight and the next incoming flight. The result in lost revenue would be the same.
As many 7 day schedules would not make this possible, I doubt there is any of this programmed in the game. An overlapping check cancels the overlapping flight in its entirety.

Well in real life, airlines often have maintenance checks done at remote locations with larger facilities or cheaper labor than the home base, and dead-head the plane to where it needs to be next. But I don't know if the game allows/models that or not.

If a B-check overlaps any part of a route pair (that is the blue timeline including the return trip, turnaround at remote station and minimum turnaround after the flights) in the scheduling screen the whole route pair will not be flown. Currently in the game A-D -checks can only be made at home base.

The only facilitation is that checks can be scheduled with minimum turnaround times without penalty.

That'd make maintance on russian A/C a lot cheaper ;D
