I've been playing for some time now and I'm wondering why people schedule every day another route instead of just flying everyday on the same time and flight number.
I know how long haul works, but for short/mid haul, what is the advantage?
I am not sure what exactly you are refering to, but it may be the 7-day-matrix. By having 7 different a/c flying the same schedule, you are able to use your fleet much more efficiently, as you are able to schedule around the A-check. Further, for competitive reasons, you are able to have different prices on high demand days like Friday and Monday. It is a lot of manual work though and we have seen airlines with 7-day-scheduling making it to the stop scores as well.
Cheers,
Denis

In short:
so called "7-day-scheduling" (to what it sounds like you are referring to) is there to maximize fleet utilization. On SH/Domestics it is a pain in the *ss to be done, but can increase your profits by 5-15% (up to how well you do it).
