I would say.. choose an airport that is medium and fly to a city that isn't served yet by another carrier in that city. Starting off, use one plane for one route. I am making close to $120k a week right now.
Play with your routes. Leave gap time in between flights, to stave off delay penalties. I found (surprisingly) after I fixed my delays, I'm close to 28% company image, and my flight loads are close to 75% on a Boeing 767. (no special config)
^ thats interesting how you make so much off one route. Is that after expense or before expense? Currently I am flying to 4 different large cities with 2 737-200 and at most I only made $72k a week after expense.
Escable, congrats, i did 3 bankrupt myself, and now doing 100k profit every week my 2nd plane arrive today(real time).
For myself things to do at the beginning,
1) Good marketing for 4 months
2) Evaluate the best route possible, don't take LARGE to LARGE routes.
3) Considering you have a good route, take the plane in consequences. Range, pax, classes.
* reconfiguring a plane cost me only 350,000$ ... and if you have a route who demands business class, let's do it at a proportion of 20%..
I did it myself on a BAe 146-300. 20 Business seats on 97 pax. I have success with it. But i don't pay my lease now, but my second BAe arrive ;)
You should wait at least 2-3 months (game time) before getting a new plane, but BEFORE your lease begin.
This is just my opinions....its worth nothing ;-) So if i'm wrong, tell me i'll do bankrupt right now =)
After making 2 times bankruptcy, i finally managed to get a working airline... and i'm making around 600K a week with 2 aircrafts (3rd one on order). I choosed a large airport DFW, and only fly longhaul flights, i i can give an advice is when creating airline get immediatly de 2,4 millions loan, and get a large airplane (i choosed Tristar 500), later i got a B767-300 which makes less revenue than the Tristar 500, but still good enough.
I will soon receive a second Tristar 500, choose routes that allows you to make the longest flight possible and 6 flights a week, and off course routes that have at least 2 times more request than seats you have available, choose to have permanent marketing on your routes aswell as general image, and everytime your finances allows you, get another airplane...
Well I have ALL of you beat :P I completely bankrupted out of game 1 (yep all 4 times) so in game two.. I think I may have finally learned something.. hehe..
Elitemedia, i did not managed the same thing than you, but sure, i make less profit per weeks, but i started with 2 little planes regional flights,
and now i've leased my first 737-300 ...imagine, 100% condition with 0,2 years old! I've being really fast i think.. I've saw it, check the range, Next C-Check, bang lease 3 years.. In 2 seconds ;-) You must be fast to take them, they go in minutes, seconds.. ;) I'll get it 1 april 93 ;)
Spoke too soon. The C check KILLLED me. I'm -2million right now. I rushed and got 2 used BACs before my plane went out of service, but I'm still bleeding $200k a week .. and I have 1 more week before C check ends.. I think
I just went thru my first C check but i managed it ok, since before C check i could affoard delivery of my fourth long range aircraft, next big step will be in 4,5 months, there i get 2 planes in C check at the same time (good advice, try not to lease aicrafts with C check at same time :-[ ), i think that if i can lease 2 more long range aircrafts until this date it should be ok...
My airline died again. I don't get it. -4mil and I called it bankrupt. No way on earth I could continue to be in business with a C check every 3 months.. That's crazy.
well I have already given you advice on where you went wrong I think. You'll be fine next time around.
