Title: How Pax work?
Post by: Dave4468 on July 13, 2011, 09:09:49 PM
I was just wondering today how pax work, or are coded to work? What are the factors that influence a pax's "choice"?

Will pax pick low cost and a low CI/RI or higher cost but higher CI/RI?
Will pax pick a jet over a prop if everything else is equal?
Will pax pick a prop with higher CI/RI over a jet with lower CI/RI?

What is the most to least important factor? CI/RI, speed, a/c type, cost, frequency?

I just started putting this on the Guide for Newbs I made.

In the end, the pax don't seem to care too much about any variable besides flying longhaul in HD seats and NEVER charge more than expected pricing.

They don't seem logical.  I've got a route which is non-stop trans-Atlantic with a new 752, with a competing airline operating an old 727 with a tech stop in Iceland, but I still can't get over 50% of the market despite providing 110% capacity.  My route is nearly two hours faster, and hassle free...

Perhaps because that competing airline has a higher CI than you?

Default pricing on tech stop routes is also lower than direct routes, so that might be playing into it a little bit.
