Title: Rescheduling from a route with a tech stop to a direct route
Post by: Frederik on April 25, 2011, 06:46:15 PM
I will soon be receiving aircraft that will be able to operate a route I currently operate with a technical stop non stop

Have not found the way to manage a current route to cancel the tech stop

Any suggestions or tricks on how to do this as I would like to keep my current slots

Just close the current route and de-select 'Release slots to the public slot pool'.

Thank you for your reply

The problem is that by cancelling the tech stop the flight moves more than 30 minutes earlier

The slots are therefore billed either at the departure airport or the destination (or both)

Increase the turn around time by 30 mins?

yes, you will have to make sure that your return flight leaves at the same time it originally did.  You will have to add or subtract time in order to do that.  Either that or you are basically changing slots around.

Do you realise you can avoid slot-change charges by moving the flights in 20 or 30 minute "chunks"?  Depending on availability you can move a flight two or three hours without charge - just change it by 30 mins, then again... and again. This doesn't tend to work when slots are very scarce and it's sometimes not possible to move them over "the hour".  Of course - this is technically cheating and I would never ever do it!  :o  I just usually mess up my timings and find I have to change them again and again when I've not left enough time! That's what happens when you set your alarm to get up at 3am to schedule a new arrival.  :'(  So, for re scheduling stopover to direct - pad it with extra layover time and then gradually move in/out the departure times at each end until it all works.

I've never noticed it to work over the hour, are you sure it works? Like you said, it doesn't always work even within the hour if there are only few slots left, but I've always imagined it to charge for the new slot if you go over the hour.
So if it really works, I suppose it's a bug that needs fixing...
