Title: Do you standardise your Ac cabin config?
Post by: NicholasB on February 09, 2011, 07:39:10 AM
Hi Folks,

Just curios to know if many of you opt for a standard custom Ac cabin config, ie: Y120, C10, F3 for all flights and sectors, or do you customise each cabin depending on the aircrafts route, destination, business and first class demand etc?.

Thinking of playing with the formula a bit to see how it goes, yet would love to hear more input first.

Cheers,

NicholasB

I usually set up a couple of configs per aircraft type (mainly for long-haul) and apply them to various route types. Some routes provide higher C- and F-demand, while others provide less, and my configs are adjusted accordingly.

For example, I usually run my A330-200s with a config of something like Y261 C28 F4 or Y261 C21 depending on where they fly.

My medium/short-haul aircraft are set up with either a HD "domestic" setup or a standard setup for longer range. All registrations are set accordingly, so that I know what config is in use.  :)

I do when I start with an aircraft type, based on the overall demand of that type of fare over all my routes.  If I have 1 or 2 routes with a massive difference, I might configure the planes especially for that route though.  Once my RI reaches 100, I keep and eye on LF%, if I notice regularly getting 90+% C on a route, I might consider adding more seats.  Same with F.

Generally though, I only have 1 or 2 config types over each fleet type.

Hope that rambling made sense!

Thanks for the feedback guys, both your comments are interesting and I think have potential to play around with configs a bit more, yet it can be costly and my current airline in ATB3 is still in its infancy, so it will have to wait a bit more.

What about other players? what your motis operandi?

I started with a fleet of F27s, when I replaced this fleet with F28s, I made two different configurations for my F28s:
Classica Plus: 50Y
Magnifica: 45Y+ 4C

With the arrival of my Mk2000s, I will add two more configurations:
Classica: 65Y
Magnifica Plus: 40Y+ 4C+ 4F

The usage of Magnifica and Magnifica Plus depends on the overall demand of the routes.

I think this is the post that has more relevance to my question

My main question is about the configuration of an aircraft. I use to always use my domestic configuration with: (say I was using a B734) I would have around 170-174 HD economy seats and around 5-10 business seats. (depending on the route) And these always did me well. I have started to use ALL standard seating, but lets face it... I want more money . But in the back of my head it's saying "YOU MUST HAVE STANDARD SEATING FOR COMFORT!"... does this really matter? I'm usually based on the eastern side of Australia (so flights to the west and north are ranging from 3-4 hours) if that helps with any tips  :)

HD is usually considered for flights under 2 hours. If the flights are longer, the passengers start to 'complain' and go elsewhere.
