Title: when during day do passengers appear
Post by: maumausi on December 13, 2010, 02:36:44 PM
I wonder (I'm in the beginners world) when people appear the airport wanting to fly to X? I mean I know 10pm-5am is unfavourable, but what advantage is there if any to scheduling planes at 9am versus 10am. Does the engine add people during the day, or are 300 people added to the airport as it were and the first carriers in and out get them with the afternoon guys getting the leftovers?

Many thanks,

Simon

You shouldn't fly between 23h-5h, unless it is LH.

Certainly not this, otherwise your 5am flight would have a LF of 100% all the time.

Ilyushin, do you know what the (strict) definition is of long-haul in this game?

Best Regards

Well, I would count a 7hr+ flight as long haul. Usually crossing an ocean, or at least flying to a different continent.

So, if your flight is long enough, you can make effective use of timezones and fly overnight.

I hope I helped you :)

It is not sequential.  Each (game) day at midnight, the system process all flights - and allocates passengers between the flights flying during the previous 24 hours.  The allocation of passengers depends on several variables, such as type or aircraft, age of aircraft, seating quality, RI, CI, time of day of the flight.

As far as scheduling at 9am vs. 10am - everything being equal other than time of day, these should be pretty much the same.  There may be a "sweet spot" fo hours around 8am and hours around 6pm, so perhaps 9am may be slightly (minimally) better time.

But your concern that the other guy flying at 9am will pick up all the available passengers, and you flying at 10am will have nothing left to pick up - no, you don't have to worry about it.  The system (AWS), as is, does not work that way.
