Title: Fleet commonality?
Post by: theskygeek on November 05, 2010, 10:51:30 AM
In the AirwaySim manual "Getting Started P2" it talks about Fleet commonality in the expanding section.

I was wondering if when it says this does it mean only have all Boeing or is Boeing broken down into different types of fleet's eg: are - Boeing 737-300/400/500 and Boeing 767-200/300/400 different fleet types or the same?

You can see the fleet group in aircraft details (at the near top of the data listings).

There is no manufacturer commonality yet, so having 737 and 767 has no benefits, but having 737-300 and -400 have benefits; compared to having 737-300 and A320 for example.

thanks sami. was actually JUST searching for that in the forums.

Will we get partial manufacturers commonality in v1.3 or something like that? In theory, the same manufacturer should provide some discounting at least on staff training and administrative costs, if not on maintenance. For example if you have a fleet of Bombardier NextGens (hehe me) - be they CRJs or Q400s your cabin crew and some cabin components are almost interchangeable, even if the front office isn't as interoperable. And you would have to do admin functions with one vendor, rather than 2, 3 or 4 which should also make things cheaper.

No idea how you would factor in manufacturer benefit between generations (ie. 737-3/4/5 and 737-6/7/8/9) because the two generations are so very different.

But just a thought.
