Title: Dash 8 Commonality
Post by: MidlandDeltic on October 25, 2010, 12:58:27 PM
Hi All

Quick query - are the de Havilland Canada DHC-8-200, -300 and Bombardier DHC-8-Q400 all regarded as a common family in AWS?  I am looking to replace my great, but ageing, Saab 340s but some routes won't take more than 40 seats, and I don't want to drop frequencies, while others could do with larger aircraft due to slot restrictions.

Cheers

MD

Thanks for the link Daveos.  I'll have to have a think on this - I rally don't want another fleet group, I have too many as it is thanks to lack of used a/c in MT3.  Pity there isn't a decent modern version of the Saab!

For what it's worth, the communality costs aren't that high if you run both Dash-8's and Q400's.  They're both very cheap to operate.  I run around 20 each in Alliance challenge and haven't seen any financial need to consolidate to one fleet type.
