The watermark is on it, so what's the problem? It's just a photo and I don't claim they're mine...

Still you are NOT allowed to copy and redistribute them. Please google for basics on copyrights.

Linking to the corresponding page is of course ok.

Ilyushin by your argument, I could reprint an entire book and that would be okay if I had the publisher's copyright on the page somewhere.

Besides, pages load faster and look nicer when there are links instead of actual photos.

Usually a 100Mb/s common network provided by the university, but at the moment there is somekind of attack going on to the server which is slowing down the traffic pretty considerably.

That's your opinion. I prefer it when the photo's are directly on the page and I do not have to click another link to see them.

Sure, I'll remove the photos and turn them into links only.
