Title: Starting my VFR licensure
Post by: swiftus27 on September 03, 2010, 01:25:20 PM
This month I start ground school... Sure, at 32 I dont have aspirations on becoming a commercial pilot but I would love to get my VFR license by the end of next year.  They are ~$8000 all in so I will have to save accordingly.

Nice... I am located 15 miles south of EHLE and 20 miles north of EHAM... But I think EHLE to be a bit cheaper to land. And if you have an Catalina you can land just on my doorstep. It's a rather City Airport like decent but I'm sure you manage to do it if you mind the powerlines  ;D

Here is a perfect airstrip (http://maps.google.nl/maps?client=firefox-a&hl=nl&ie=UTF8&ll=52.36407,5.2249&spn=0.021961,0.066047&t=h&z=15), in the middle of a city and I assure you the coffee is of good quality. (Nespresso). But please note it's 7 meters BELOW sea level.

I don't understand why you posted this in the forum?..

The majority of people here are interested in aviation and as you can see from the responses, other people find it interesting.

I don't understand why you felt it necessary to respond in the way you did and therefore by your logic, your should not have posted a response.  Anyway, you're clearly a WUM.

Back to topic before this thread turns into the usual argument despite somebody posting something of genuine note.  Good luck Swiftus, maybe one day I'll have enough cash to do something similar.  Where are you based?  Is that in Ohio?

Farewell swiftus! you'll enjoy it I tell you :)
Maybe you already know this basic rule, but whatever.
"Every take-off is optional, every landing is mandatory" ;D

Have fun. Doesn't matter if you go commercial or not. To be honest you will have much more fun staying to VFR flying for fun.

Good luck and happy landings

Those seized wing motor planes are boring...
I can show you many things that those Cessnas/Pipers can't do  ;)

It appears Mr. T8keoff has deleted his post... How surprisingly (not).

But The reasson why Swiftus posted it is because he is probably excited he is going to fly. And if I was in his shoes I probably would do exactly the same thing.

Secondly, we have asked many times for a seperate part on the forum for non game related chat, but till this day Sami probably didn't had the time to implement it because he's probably writing a funky new game feature for us  ;)

Yes, this is in Ohio.  There is an airfield about 15nm NE of KCLE called Burke Lakefront.  It is an airport that caters to this type of flying and business jets.

I can't wait to do it.  Ground school starts in 2 weeks.

Anyways, if anyone feels the need to forum troll my posts, feel free.  You are just showing what type of person you are.

On our last summer our family went to Cedar Point and we drove around Lake Eire, and Burke Lakefront, what a pretty airport it is!

Congrats, you will really enjoy flying.

Im in the process of adding ME to my ppl (not ppl(h)) ;-)   and while I love aviation, I dont expect to work in it, I just fly because its so much fun.

Plus, it doesnt hurt when you can take a couple of friends for a flight to somewhere random for a weekend of camping for example, rather than driving.

Powi, VTOL is one of those things, and sometimes I kind of miss it ;)

Swiftus, where do you live in the US ?

I'm starting a pilot training in San Diego area (I'm going commercial), maybe i could visit you during my time building  ;D.

Good Luck Swiftus!!!!!!

I would love to become a pilot aswell! But..... Some things in Denmark is as expensive as hell. A commercial airline certificate here in Denmark costs arround 10.000$  :-\ And a cheeseburger costs 2 dollars  :'(

Another good idea is to join the Air Force. You get to learn the basics in flying in the Air Force. And then after a couple of years, just take a course for commercial flying. Alot of commercial pilots is retired air force pilots aswell

But other younglings could get that idea aswell :)

We are using the Jepps' book... was told it was one of the better ones.

Just going to tell you if you are anywhere near KBKL or KCLE to STAY in Bravo starting next week.

swiftus, it's never too late to start flying --- you will have many years ahead of you yet! I really hope you enjoy yourself I think PPLs are a great thing and wouldn't discourage anyone from getting one.

Save your money and go to college! :) Or to go Embry-Riddle and get a proper education.
Sure you'll be able to find a job after you've instructed clueless idiots for 2000 hours, but you'd get the better education at ER or even Delta Academy.

Im 32...

Never too late, two of my instructors were 30 and 34, both landed a job fairly quickly compared to the other instructors cus they were in the "right age".
You're prolly gonna be more mature and make a better impression on an interview compared to a 22 year old with 3000 hours.

Another good idea is to look up the options in Scandinavia. There is a Uni in Tromsø, Norway that has a flight school program. The instructors and planes are what SAS Academy used to own and operate @ ENDU.

There is also Lund Uni in Sweden.

None of em cost any money. The cheeseburger is 10 bucks in Norway tho. But both places offer a great education and you'll earn a Bachelors degree in Aviation. Which might come in handy later on.
