Title: I'm new - what next?
Post by: thetallone24 on October 19, 2008, 08:15:43 PM
Hi Everyone,

This game looks great, when is it "live"? I can't wait to try it!!
So how does this really work in terms of route management and yield etc etc?

For example, if I were to start an airline flying from London (with it's huge Polish population)
to Poland, would the game recognise the demand for this route?

I'm really intrigued and desperate to try it!

Thanks
Tall

On the answer to the last question, the simulation can be MADE to recognize such variations. There are two sources for demand between route pairs that I am aware of - researched real world data, and a predictive model which basically generates scientific wild-ass guesses.

The model, of course, seems to be unable to guess 'unusual' situations (most glaringly notable case in my experience - the Canadian arctic, which represents some thoroughly bizarre conditions air traffic-wise), but I've been surprised by the number of times in which it turned out to be pretty close to reasonable real world figures.

There's a lot of stuff which just isn't done yet, and Sami seems to be one of those ethical sorts who figures charging money for an incomplete product is a bad idea. There is, at the very least, one more beta test game that will be run, so it's not going live anytime soon. On the other hand, keep an eye on the announcements board. The number of players in the current beta test has been creeping steadily downwards, allowing for the possibility that Sami may require more. I'd personally advise waiting for a 'Need more beta testers' post as the 'harass Sami until he lets me join' approach doesn't seem to work very well.  ;D

Thanks Mahon,

Yeah, I think I will leave Sami alone, I'm sure he gets hassled enough with these
requests, hopefully they will allow more Beta testers soon!  :)

We're all waiting at this point. Apparently there's going to be some significant work done before the next beta starts... something which has definitely piqued my curiosity, for sure.

I have been keeping track of the forums and will definitely be interested in participating in the next beta test.   :) :)
