I'd like to see Japan vs Ghana in the finals but thats unlikely. It's too bad USA was eliminated. (I'm a new soccer fan :) )
My bet is
1st Uruguay
2nd Argentina
3rd Brazil
http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/index.html
If you're a new soccer fan then you should be straightened out....
1) Portugal
2) Brazil
3) Germany
Either Brazil or Portugal I'm fine with winning, but Portugal is my fav. :D
Argentina
I was going for Mexico but now I'm p***ed of because of yesterday's Mexico-Argentina match. >:( So unfair.
Holland will win. ;)
Since Finland is never going to qualify, I'm cheering for Japan. Other favorites for me are/were South-Korea and USA.
I believe Japan has a chance to win their next match, but they'll lose the semi-final if they make it so far.
I'd put my money to a South-American winner this year! Argentina looks damn good and Brazil is always strong. Of course Germany is 'always' in the top4 as well.
I'm not a football fan but i like this one though http://twitpic.com/20gofe
It is probably going to be Argentina or Brazil that wins the cup, but for the record:
HUP HOLLAND HUP!!!
[edit]: btw mini airbus: Uruguay is not going to win the cup. They are pretty good, bot not thát good!

STOP. Holland won't for the simple reason its not participating in the world cup. The royal kingdom of the Netherlands is, and as Holland is integrated into that... Holland doesn't play as a country but the team is made up from players from Holland and the Netherlands. The team name is "Orange".
Please read... think you like a bit of history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holland

Orange trägt nur die Müllabfuhr!!!!

Germany will kick out Argentina, and will become World Champion!!!
1) Germany
2) Porugal

(and those wearing in our country orange are still clever people ;D )
@Jona L.: I agree - we will beat Argentina :)
Chile o Argentina
Portugal será o campeão, batendo os perdedores na Itália, que venceu no ano passado sobre os franceses estúpidos!
(Portugal will become the champions by beating out those losers in Italy who won last year over the stupid French!)
;D
Well... At least Netherlands is now in the World top 8... Take that you fat Stirling using island inhabitants, Snail and Cow brain eating frogs and corrupt Pizza heads ;D ;D (I don't want to offend any one here... I'm just happy that one of the smallest countries in Europe can do things the big ones can't.

Of course if you measure by the total area, maybe then, but I can't see how it has any effect on football...
North Korea
England :-[
I think Argentina will probably win though
Why does England have a team but Holland doesn't?
Unfortunately I don't know enough about the Netherlands to compare geo-political elements properly, but in terms of UK football - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have seperate regulatory bodies and hence seperate leagues. This is manifested in the seperate national teams too. This does fall apart a little since some Welsh teams (e.g. Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham) play in the English leagues and 1 English team (Berwick-on-Tweed, on the Scottish border) plays in Scotland to make travelling easier as it's a semi-professional side.
As far as I know, the Eredivisie in the Netherlands incorporates all parts of the Netherlands including Holland. Please let me know if this is worng :)
There's a good quote from wikipedia - 'Although most national football teams represent a sovereign state, England is one of the United Kingdom's Home Nations. This means that it is permitted by FIFA statutes to maintain its own national side that competes in all major professional tournaments, with the exception of the Olympic Games'
I was supporting Italy, but we sucked too bad this year >:(
I thank Lippi (our coach) for giving us our world title in 2006, but he has taken so many bad choices this year that you can't imagine! We had so many good players left at home just because Lippi said that they weren't mature enough. If by mature he means 40 year old with back pains since this can generalise 80% of our team this year.
Anyway, I hope that Argentina wins. Maradona really deserves it.
No offence, but I hope that Germany or Brasil will not win, otherwise Germany will have 4 titles (like Italy - so we would not be the second best anymore) and Brasil would have 6 (so they would be gaining an edge on Italy)
Anyway, Lippi is getting fired and we will have Prandelli as our coach, and he is known for turning crappy old teams into young and strong ones.

Why does England have a team but Holland doesn't?
Basically there were Welsh, English, Scottish & Irish National teams before FIFA was founded (playing in the Home Championship). When FIFA was created, they agreed to abide by the laws of the game set by the IFAB, which consisted of the Welsh, English, Scottish & Irish FA's. It has remained the same ever since (With FIFA getting a say in the IFAB).
The IOC don't recognise the UK as four nations though, so it's a GB team in the Olympics.
I think everyone calls the Netherlands team Holland anyway :)

It's FOOTBALL, or if you want to distinguish it from the American game, Association Football ;)
Daveos is right. Holland (actually there are two parts now: North-Holland and South-Holland) isn't its own country like Wales, its a province of the Netherlands. We have twelve (one of which is completely 'poldered in' (means it was once sea)), but there's just one national team.
And they are going to win. ::)

Can you imagine, twelve dutch football teams, each representing its own Province. HUP ZUID HOLLAND HUP!!! ;D
Would be rooting for Norway if they were in the World Cup but since they aren't i have to go for Holland.
It will be nice to have a all-South American semi...
I wouldnt be surprised to see Argentina followed by Brazil and Uruguay.
I was sad that my Greece didnt make it :'( but at least they won one game! :D
Portugal has been doing really well, but I would not be surprised if Spain beats them.... or the other way around.
I don't think Japan, Paraguay, or Ghana will make it.... but the Netherlands and Germany for sure are wildcards.
Forgot to take note of Germany. They were quick on their toes vs England.
I'm hoping for mixed results, 1 from each continent. I'll change my bet to 1st place Brazil, 2nd Germany, and 3rd Japan. ;D If I'm way off on this outcome then I'll be the first to kick myself in the head!
The 2 players that stood out for me the most are Suarez from Uruguay and Honda of Japan.
So... bye bye Japan....
So everyone who bet on them... sorry for you :P
I say that Spain vs. Portugal will end with a lot of injuries (if not fatalities :P ;D ) because they are gonna fall each others down... neighborhood fight so to say ;D
@ LAS: Schön gesagt... hätts nicht besser sagen können :)

Have fun kicking you ;D JPN is OUT muhahaha ;D no, just kidding, I wonder how they came so far all :P
*kicks self* :-[ :'(
Paraguay and Japan played at the same level and the win decided by a penalty shootout Komano failed to put in :(
I was going for Mexico and USA but thanks to some uber refereeing, Mexico got punted. So now I'll go Uruguay.
Before the Cup started, I predicted it would be Brazil and Argentina in the final, I'm sticking with that prediction. ;)
If Germany kicks Argentina, there is no doubt they gonna get the 4th star. Winning the final against the `Oranjes`. Sorry for that, little flat neighbor country..... ;D ;)
Germanys ass will be kicked for sure :P But 'Oranje' will win the cup!
:'( :'( Portugal is out...... All because that stupid referee called on Portugal for things that Spain did.... >:(

Oh please, always blame the referee. No Spain played better that Portugal and they won.
Psychic octopus picked Germany over Argentina. We'll see.
he called offside on Portugal, and when Spain did the same, nothing. he gave a yellow card to Portugal for "charging and tripping", and when Spain did the same, nothing. He even gave a red card to Portugal. The guy that got hurt even begged the ref to take the card back. What a *&^#-face! >:(
wha wha wha wha
Portugal never in the tournament played a nice football at all, they didn´t deserve it. spain was clearly the better team. by the way: why the hack was Ronal-do playing, he should have better done another movie instead-great actor.... 8)

Don't bet on it. Either way I'm happy Brasil is out, I'm sick and tired of Brasil reaching the finals.
I think the toughest match in this WC will be tomorrow, Germany vs Argentina.
Now that Portugal is out i would like Argentina to win ( The brazillians on the forum will probably kill me for this statement but its not my fault they lost to Holland ). I am not sure they can beat Germany though. As Gary Lineker said a few years ago, " Footbal is a game for 22 people that run around, play the ball, and one referee who makes a slew of mistakes, and in the end Germany always wins " :)
It's all very simple now: The Netherlands will win the cup! 8)
Beating Brazil was very good for the team, I think. They will be able to take on anyone now!
Very impressive play NEDs. The fighing spirit shows through.
As for Brazil, could this be the worst Brazilian defeat? They're lowest was in 1934 placing 14th.
Theres a chance that this could be an all European finals or maybe even a semi-final without a South American team if Ghana makes it in which I think will be tough playing agaisnt a team going for their 3rd title.
Holland going to finals. No Suarez for Uruguay in the next match.
Suarez and his handball lol. Too bad Ghana could have turned that penalty into an easy goal and end the game before they went to the penalty shootout. They were fun to watch, very tight game, and lots of dramas!
That game Ghana vs. Uruguay was unfair in the end!
Uruguay GO DOWN!!!! Ghana would have earned the quartal! instead some really unsocial, and unsporty player scr#wed them up!
And Germany will kick NED'S Asses! we will make you the 2nd!

first part of my prediction has verified...today: argentina get your stuff you don´t stay the day ;)
`Oranje` you did great! Congrats... There´s that saying that if germany plays bad, they´ll reach the final,if they play good, they´ll get the cup... (this is a french saying ;D)

Agreed, that almost goal Ghana would have scored in the last minute should have been allowed without the need for a penalty. It would have been a good goal if that guy hadn't
cheated. The wrong team won.
Buenos Dias Argentina....
4:0
Hasta Luego Argentina!!!!
4:0 GER:ARG!!!!!
Germany for world-champion!!!
Argentina truly a horrible performance, they got trounced and deservedly so.
I'm sorry for Maradona :'(

I won't be playing AWS next Saturday. And if everything goes well I won't play the game on the Sunday either.
I officially love Holland. Although the right team won the wrong team lost, Holland should have been beating Ghana! :P

Yeah will be fun agains the Spanish. They invaded our country a few centuries ago and in response we made our national anthem against them... With "Ben ik van Duitsen bloed", which means "I am from German blood".
lol Germany
¡Viva España!
With the US out I have been hoping the Netherlands would make it through. Hope they win it!
Well... I misspredicted :'(
I hope Spain wins, so we lost against the best ;D (as in EM [European Masters])
but 3rd is okay too... (like last year)

hup holland hup!
Sorry, guys, Spain is gonna win. Oracle octopus chose Spain over Ned. :D
COOL!!!
btw. That Octopus(sy) lives <15 Km away from me ;D
You can tell how bad England's World Cup has been. The press seem very excited about the prospect of Howard Webb (an Englishman) refereeing the final :-\ Straws and clutching comes to mind!

Daveos, If you say England was bad, what about Italy!
Predictions guys? :)
I think 2-0 Spain, although I'd prefer the Dutch to win ;D
Spain wins 3-1.
Disgusting Spain! Especially Iniesta. Such a shame that they won and Iniesta scored.
The latest Hollywood filming star...
The octopus knew this already .. but rather stupid way to win IMHO by getting their chances by bit unfair play. (winning goal wasn't offside but the events before that by him)
Grande España Campeones!!
I think Spain deserved it overall, but the Dutch should have had a corner and a free kick just before that. Saying that, Nigel De Jong should have been sent off in the first half for karate kicking Xabi Alonso. It wasn't a good game, but well done Spain.
Paul's facebook :)...say your thanks http://www.facebook.com/PsychicOctopusPaul
Take that octopus to Vegas!!!!
Woohoo! Spain won!
BTW, I'm American, with no Spanish or Dutch heritage at all.
I read in a newspaper that the octopus is actually italian! He was captured in italy, brought to an english aquarium and then sold to germany for €200.
Should be called Luigi then, not Paul
I urge Jona ( who claims to live nearby ) to pay a visit to the octopus and put it where it belongs; a frying pan. The moron could have predicted any other team >:(
where is the octopus located? if it's in Dusseldorf or Koln - he lives nearby. ;)
