Title: Low demand routes
Post by: Zabuti on May 18, 2010, 04:42:12 PM
Hello

I have a question regarding the way the system handles low demand routes. (I haven't seen this question on the forum, so I ask it).

Suppose I would like to open a longhaul route with low demand (e.g. 100 pax per day), but no competitor operating.

Due to range issues, I can only open that road with very large aircrafts (let's 200 pax after resetting the cabin with C and F seats), and of course I want to maximize the number of pax in the aircraft.

I open this route on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Will pax from Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays take it until a new route is opened on these days ?

I believe that in real life that would be the case, but maybe the system considers days as independant.

Thanks for your help

No. I would run the route 7 days a week, or else it won't be worth it because of bad route image.

No, demand for Tuesday will not migrate to other days which have excess supply. You're going to have trouble profiting on that route unless you have a plane that can cover that range daily without oversupplying too much.

Thanks for your replies. That's what I wanted to know.

Have a great day

I'm certainly not an expert, I just started playing, but from what I've noticed, demand does seem to spread over the available flights when it's a thin route and there is no competition. Having said that, I would personally only count on that on shorter trips (<2500NM or so). The flights will take a while for image and demand to pick up but they will. I think the longer the route is the more passengers you need to be on each flight for it to be worth it (whether it's once a week or 7x a week). I've done this quite a bit on shorter routes and I plan on trying it on intercontinental routes that I want to "warm-up" image for until more/better aircraft arrive for more frequent service.

That's what I've found, your results may be different.

Peace.

You're probably seeing the effects of good company image.  If you have a good CI, you can capture up to 150% of the "estimated" pax load.
