Are there cost advantages to opening up an additional frequency on an existing route versus opening a new route?
For instance, If I run for example JFK-LAX 2x daily, and I am looking at either starting a 3rd time daily JFK-LAX or open 1x JFK-SFO, which option is going to give me the greatest cost savings?
It would seem that if I run an additional frequency on an existing route, that my costs would be lower, if for nothing else, staff would be in place at both airports already.
It has no noticable differences, but for other reasons (marketing, route image) I would suggest to add another freq. to existing destinations if there is demand for that.
