I am considering switching from "Very Large Aircraft" to "Large Aircraft." If I get rid of my VL A/C and buy L A/C my VL A/C pilots will be redundant. I know firing staff decreases CI, but how much for just some (~70) pilots?

/grab ankles
/kiss CI goodbye
Ballocks. Looks like I'm sticking to Very Large aircraft then.

Hold on swiftus. I've done this before, and it's usually not thát bad! I mean, I think I lost about 5-10 points once. Maybe some more? But it is not as dramatical as you make it sound ;)
@MattDell: make your marketing campaign a bit more expensive before you start firing people. Then fire them and see what happens to your CI. Your going to lose some points, but overtime you'll get those points back.
I have lost many many many more points than 5-10. I've lost TONS before. If I recall almost 30
If you only sack pilots, i've found the penalty to be 10-15 CI points (assuming you're around 90 to start).
If you equalize all staffing levels (i.e. ex large require more FA's, etc), then you'll take a much larger 30+ point hit.
To update, I sacked 40 pilots and 100 flight attendants and my CI went from 26 to 19. Worth it.

I would suggest to take the risk if your competitive situation is good. If you are in a struggle right now, then don't do it...

i had to fire lots of staffs because i needed to "tightennn" the company (make it a bit smaller and efficient)... My CI was 40 and droped to 22.. But i opened a huge marketing campaign and in the 2nd week after, the CI was in 31, and in the 4th week, it was 41 points again.. so, it worthed for me :P
now i have to fire people again.. Lets see what hapens
In the real world, airlines unfortunately have to sacrifice staff and management to keep flying. I say if ya gotta do it, ya gotta do it. I usually hire some extra ground staff/customer service when doing quick turnarounds, but if I had to I'd chop staff back to the required 100%, I'd do it in a heart beat. I also go without paying myself for awhile sometimes. That helps a bit.
P.S. CI is very resilient most of the time. It doesn't take long, usually, to get back up there. :)
It's unfortunate because in real life, as an airline, you probably wouldn't fire those staff and re-hire new ones you would just train them on the new type, afterall you pay for "Staff Training" on the income statement and also to a degree on the fleet commonality page.
Maybe there could be a way you can convert your pilots between different aircraft classes.
Not sure, but I think that's on the to-do list of Sami. It has been discussed before in the 'Feature request' forum.
