Title: Ideas about Scheduling
Post by: ChrisEDDF on January 15, 2010, 10:03:23 PM
Hi!

I am having some thoughts about the scheduling system and want to present an idea.

At the moment the scheduling is based upon assigning flights to registration numbers. If an aircraft needs to go for a check we need to change the schedule onto another aircraft or even edit all the flights if the new aircraft is of a new type. Also, for example, having a daily flight to destination XXX will have flight number 123. If you need more than 1 aircraft to operate this route (round-trip longer than 24 hours, e.g. Europe to Asia), we need to create another flight with another number although it is actually the same flight.

Here is the idea. Wouldn't it be better to establish a scheduling system where you create fixed schedules and then assign an aircraft to that flight. You could then operate flight 123 on days 1,3 & 5 with registration A and on days 2,4 & 6 with registration B. This would also offer many other possibilities to enable a more realistic scheduling. Basically it would be the other way around from the current system.

I am working in an airline and have worked in an airline head office closely with the Scheduling Department in a previous job. This would be more like scheduling is done in real life.

Your thoughts?

Regards
