Imagine building an airline with dc3's and finishing with 788s!
Real world fuel prices of course...
See here (https://www.airwaysim.com/forum/index.php/topic,17162.0.html).
We so need a longhaul 1960-2020 game..........
I don't think a long game will be present until this idea is fully implemented - https://www.airwaysim.com/forum/index.php/topic,17132.0.html
Long games become uncompetitive and, as a consequence, unrealistic if it goes on too long. It seems like a nice idea to run an airline for decades, but once you acheive full control of an airport, the game becomes a series of minor tweaks. Hopefully this new idea will create a more realistic scenario and breaking into the world market will become the challenge or turning an airline's fortunes round.
I like the idea of taking over a basket case airline and trying to get it back into profit. :P
would be so nice and our companies can enjoy a long business life like lufthansa or british
How would a long game be unrealistic? Look at the airlines that have been around 60/70+ years? Sounds really realistic to me.......

If players stayed interested in their airlines then I agree it would be fantastic, but airlines that are successful in the game are ultimately very boring creatures. Once the competition disappears, so does the interest. The big airlines run themselves and even an attack from a couple of airlines can be easily deflected. I've seen many airlines bankrupt themselves because the CEO is bored. The long game would only work, if like in real life, a new owner takes over with enthusiasm to do something with the airline. There is no way I could manage
1 airline for 60-70 years of game time.
In my previous post, I was inferring that a long game in the
current format would be unrealistic. Being a top 10 airline isn't very exciting I can assure you :) The building of an airline and chasing the competition makes things interesting. The thrill of the chase...
Dave :)
Makes sense in the aspect that you speak of, thats why I am a fan of the take over an airline option ;D
The one thing I would like would be all the changes an airline would go through: props, 1gen jets, 2nd gen, NG and so on. I think that would be kinda fun......
