Title: Real world schedules
Post by: Ryanjet on September 27, 2009, 07:04:31 PM
I appreciate doing this wont have the same effect as it does in the 'real world' but has anyone tried immitaing a real world schedule in the name of RPG?

I am thinking about this quite a lot :) But still haven't got all the experience to do so :)

...I was thinking about either Turkish airlines or Czech Airlines. The problem is in the demand mainly since there are quite a lot of lines today but not enough demand in the game :)

Without the ability to make connections you wont be able to replicate a real world schedule and be profitable

Lacking connections would be the #1 problem.

The #2 problem would be the lack of demand that reflects reality in great many cases.  While XYZ Airline might operate 10 x 737 flights a day between A and B, in-game there might be demand of only 200/day.  Some of that is due to the first problem -- connections.  Some of it is that there simply isn't data for every single OD pair on the planet, so the vast majority of routes in-game have demand created as a result of a formula that generates a demand given the cities sizes.

Well don't forget the problem of time. In JA3 is 1975 now and those 10x flights you talk about are now in 2009 :)

I've spent almost month for this purpose to collect the actual demad data within the Russia/CIS. As I work in travel ticket agency, it's good that I have an access to all base and the reservations systems.
As a lot of time is required for this purpose that this data would be install in game. I think that Sami works alone and no have time.
