Does having a general marketing campaign for Local, State, Country, Continent, and World EACH do the same as if I only had one for the World?
Essentially if I have a newspaper campaign for each, am I wasting money?
Does having one only for the World do the same?
I think they add up. You can also do multiple campaigns (e.g. 2 x world plus 1 x state) and they will result in a faster CI increase. More knowledgeable people will correct me if I'm wrong.
Yea, you can think it like this:
world - campaign effectiveness: 100
my city - c. effectivenes: 10
world + my city => 110.
just world => 100.
etc.
Numbers off my head but that's the rough idea.
What Kontio says is correct. Don't be so humble Kontio :P
Yes. Multiple campaigns add up to a total weekly cost. Also note that the different "levels" ( local, country continent ect) have different effects. Full local marking wont be as effective as full continent marketing.
Its about weekly cost % towards your total weekly income. Mix and match the different campaigns totals to get the level your comfortable with.
or
You can be lazy like me and set Full, World marketing to permanent and balance expanding your airline with super high marketing costs. The end result would be CI 100 after 9-10 months...
But dont try that until you have strong understanding of game. It is very hard to balance and will bankrupt you if not done right. Took me 3 times to figure that out ;)

Ok, this is a bit confusling! if I ask my advertising agent to start a newspaper campaign in my city, and then ask him to start another newspaper advertising campaign worldwide, will this be how it works:
He will put an Ad for me in the local newspaper based on my city-only campaign
And he will put an Ad for me in every newspaper in the world, including putting "another" Ad in my local newspaper, based on my worldwide campaign
isn't this a waste of my money because I already have a local campaign?
I think it would make more sense if the other worldwide campaign had no effect on my city, I mean the purpose of a world-wide campaign is to introduce my airline to travelers who are coming to my city from all parts of the world and make them fly with me! besides, what does a 110% efficiency mean in the real world?
why not? It shouldnt be a problem. Perhaps your local ad is on page 4 of the metro section and the worldwide ad is on page 2 of the main section? Who knows?
Also, local ads would talk about local flights.... worldwide ads would talk about the airline.
Sorry, but I agree with Sami here.
All advertising campaigns affect your company image, which is the same worldwide. Therefore all general advertising campaigns are really worldwide, the difference is in the cost and size of effect on the CI. Don't make it too complicated, it's just a game!
