Title: Your best aviation photos
Post by: GEnx on June 03, 2011, 07:01:41 PM
Since I'm curious as to how many of you sometimes shoot aviation pictures, I thought I'd make a thread to post them in. Here are two MD-11 cockpit pictures of mine.

Climbing over the Cheshire Countryside just after getting my PPL,

Sorry for the picture quality, i had to edit them in art in order to get airwaysim to post them, otherwise they'd be too big :(

Hey Bob ,

My best series of photos was when the 787 Dreamliner came into Rapid City last Nov for high wind testing.  It was supposed to be an ultra secret in and out one day thing, but that was the day that one of the other prototypes had the electrical fire.  So it was grounded at my home airport.  Of course I rushed right over.   ;D

I have about a trillion AMAZING Dreamliner pictures.  But it won't let me go below 230kb (original pic 2.1MB).  How can I bypass this?

EDIT:  Figured it out.  Here they are!!!

The coolest thing about a small airport like RAP is that you can get REALLY close to the tarmac.  These pictures were taken with a Nikon Coolpix, not even a SLR or anything.  And virtually no zoom was used.  I was about 50 yards away from the 787.  And the general public could come to where I was standing.  I was peeking my camera right through the airport's fence.  I only wish the rental equipment hadn't been in the way.

All pics taken from Managua, Nicaragua in  July 09. We have a TACA A319 (?) , American B737-800 going to Miami, and a Continental B737-800 going to Houston. All pics were taken early morning- some of the first flights out. Disappointed that i didnt get to see a AA A300 there :/ it used to operate the afternoon flight before being replaced by 767-300's and 757-200's

From that angle It looks like an A318, but TACA operates only A319, A320, A321's. They also operate A330's and ERJ-190's   ;D

Yeah most likely A319 as only one overwing emergency exit and the vertical stabiliser is too small to be A318.

Heya all:

I spent pretty a few hours in CDG this Sunday (waiting for my B735 LH back to DUS at 20:00).

The top ten shots (sort by random (most likely time) but not by rank):

AerLingus A320
(http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg194/scaled.php?server=194&filename=dsc02748bb.jpg&res=medium)

SAS B736
(http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg163/scaled.php?server=163&filename=dsc02753k.jpg&res=medium)

Qatar Airways A345
(http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg819/scaled.php?server=819&filename=dsc02766yu.jpg&res=medium)

Air France B744

Air Transat A333 (Welcome special-livery)

Cathay Pacific B744 (and an SWISS European Airlines BAe 146)

PIA B773 (Still with the BAe 146)

Iron Maiden B752 (and the nose of a LOT Polish Airlines EMB170)

TAM A333
(http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg7/scaled.php?server=7&filename=dsc02968u.jpg&res=medium)

Air Berlin A333 (former LTU plane)

That so far. Will add more in August when going DUS-LHR, LHR-DUS, DUS-HAM, HAM-DUS and in October when going FRA-ORD and ORD-FRA. Maybe I will be spotting at DUS in the meantime as well... We will see :)

Jona L.

P.S.: sorry for the not tooo great quality... in CDG Terminal 1's gate areas you have to shoot your pics through 2 glass walls, and my camera is not the best (a 3yr old Sony, with 3xOptical zoom at max...)
I hope you can enjoy the pics anyways :)

Yep, due to tech issues with the EK018 and EK020 on Monday July 25th, both flights night-stopped at MAN. As a result, on the following day, Emirates movements at MAN were:

EK021 - Arrival of daily A332 from Dubai

Maybe by using paint? Just editing a picture by downsizing it and save as another name might work for you?

I've tried using paint but it makes the picture way to small  :-\

I tried opening a photo of mine in paint. Then I wnet to the "Image" bar and then selected "Stretch/Skew", and started downgrading by 70%/70%, and again, and again until I felt it was decently sized.
Just to test I will post it:

200kb / file attached --> maximum size for 10 files added = 2mb...

Though even with 1 pic only, you still have only 200kb. Other option: use imageshack.us (http://imageshack.us) or simlar websites and implement pictures via links :)

I just got back yesterday from a trip to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.  I flew AVL-CLT-IAD-ADD-JRO and was supposed to fly on the Dreamliner from IAD-ADD on Ethiopian Airlines, but obviously didn't because they were grounded.  Below is a pic from Addis Ababa Bole International Airport in Ethiopia of 2 of their 4 Dreamliners parked on the tarmac.  I just got off the 777 refueling on the left, which was used on the route instead.

Thats an incredibly ugly machine indeed : the triumph of content over style and a credit to the accountants who designed it : nothing has been allowed to mar the ultimate aim of fitting as many seats in as possible, certainly no consideration was ever given to daft notions of making it look like an aircraft you would want to fly in. I would reckon more time/design dollars went into saving two ounces off the toilet fittings than went into how it looks...
Title: Re: Your best aviation photos
Post by: LemonButt on April 06, 2013, 01:15:10 PM
I agree it is somewhat ugly, but the only reason it is ugly is because our perception of what a commercial aircraft should look like is not a double decker.  The B747-400 isn't much prettier than the A380, but it isn't not a "full" double decker.  If Airbus was boring a page out of Boeing's book, they would have put the cockpit on the second deck and extended the first deck all the way to the front of the aircraft.  Otherwise, there isn't a whole lot you can do to make this thing look pretty...

Otherwise, there isn't a whole lot you can do to make this thing look pretty...

The A380 becomes a lot (and i mean A LOT!) more aesthetic once it is stretched to 80,00 meters. It looks much sleeker then. There are some morphs on the web, search for A380-900 on google image search.
Title: Re: Your best aviation photos
Post by: Dasha on April 06, 2013, 06:05:39 PM
I meant to say the A380 only looks pretty with the BA livery.

The 747 looks sleeker, better proportioned and alltogether a much prettier aircraft.

Nothing beats the Tu154 on looks though. Sounds amazing as well.

I 100% disagree!

the 747 is in my eyes the most beautiful, sexiest one may say, aircraft there is. Closely followed by the 77W and the A346, yet the 747 (especially the -8i and the -400) is the best looking girl flying.

Well, as promised, more pictures from DUS.
ENJOY :)

KLM DC-3 (PH-PBA) early June this year. The "Prinsess Amalie" was with us for a few days for the "Day of Aviation" in Germany last month.

(ex-) Lufthansa Junckers JU-52 (D-COLH). Largely painted on the fuselage and under the wings is "D-AQUI" however, since that was its original registration. Just with the new registration standards in GER they couldn't use D-AXXX as reg. for such a light a/c. On the right side you can see the tailfin of the KLM DC-3 again.

Turkish Airlines B738 (TC-JGS) doing some flap-tests. Full flaps config (40°), view under the trailing edge flaps on the right hand side wing. The plane was being prepared for the red-eye flight to ASR (Kayseri, Turkey) to return early in the morning, and than continue the normal IST-DUS-IST schedules.

Same TK B738 view on the RH wing flaps from behind.

Fly Niki A320 (OE-LER) with "sharklets" (to me these look just like winglets, but meh.... same difference :P ). If you "translate" the registration, "OELER" becomes "GREASER" (just a fun fact asides)
(presumably departing to VIE, but cannot confirm)

Orenair B738 (VP-BEN) with some nice evening red shining on its side, while the last passengers board the aircraft for departure to CEK (Cheljabinsk, Russia)

FlyBE Bombardier Dash8Q400 [DH8D] (G-JEOF) coming in for a nightstop in DUS. I just liked the sunset behind it.

Same DH8D, just with more perspective on the plane (since we have already seen the sunset :P )

Stay tuned for more pictures, when available :)

cheers guys,

Well, airbus replaced the old wingtip-fences with the new 'sharklets' aka winglets.
This is why I said same difference :P

And yes, it is new, they retrofit older Airbus, and for new ones they become pretty much standard.

Finnair (op. by Flybe Finland) ATR-72 OH-ATO arriving from HEL for the night... 1:40 am. Another night guest on the background, E-190 OH-LKG, arrived at 9 pm from HEL. The E-170s and E-190s are all operated by Flybe Finland, but flown only on Finnair AY-coded routes, thus the Finnair livery. ATRs are flown both on AY and BE routes, so they have their own livery.

From your images it looks like you are more like doing everything, while I don't have to load bags ( :P ). Though I do it sometimes, if there is a lack of time, and the loading crew is the good guys.

Nice to know there are more guys doing ramp supervision in here :)
Just asides, and no need to answer or anything, but is your job as underpaid in Finland as it is in Germany?

From your images it looks like you are more like doing everything, while I don't have to load bags ( :P ). Though I do it sometimes, if there is a lack of time, and the loading crew is the good guys.

Nice to know there are more guys doing ramp supervision in here :)
Just asides, and no need to answer or anything, but is your job as underpaid in Finland as it is in Germany?

cheers,

I consider working at a smaller airport a benefit, in that I get to do everything. Loading at every phase, marshalling, de-icing, cleaning the over-nighters, water and toilet service, etc. Well, I could do without cleaning and toilet service. :P Besides, on a typical scheduled turn-around, there's only two of us working. On a charter flight, more of course.
As for pay, compared to my previous job as a security guard I wouldn't consider it underpaid. Ugh. For a newcomer in my job, the salary would be about 1830 €/month + extras for evenings, nights and weekends. Naturally, the taxman takes his own from that...

Nicosia International Airport was once the main airport for the island of Cyprus, but has now been derelict for nearly forty years. Principally used as the headquarters of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, the commercial flight area has lain empty since the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974: http://www.urbanghostsmedia.com/2012/06/abandoned-since-1974-nicosia-international-airport-pictures/

Holy sh*t, I need to move to Finland!!! I'm payed on hourly base, and due to us working mostly for charter airlines (and a few scheduled ones like EIN, SAS, UAE, ETD and the alike) the winter months are looooooow hours.
Usually in summer time working hours are 180-220hrs/mth and in winter more like 80-100/mth. Before TAX I rarely exceed 1300€ (including all bonusses for night, etc.), and after TAX I am happy to still be 4 digits. If I didn't love my job so much, I'd be looking elsewhere for better paid ones, but I don't wanna leave this thing.

cheers,

These are a few pictures I thought y'all might find interesting. They are from DFW (Dallas/Ft.Worth) taken August 1988. Taken by me and my dad.
