Title: Boeing 747-300M range bug?
Post by: seafax on July 02, 2022, 08:43:05 PM
I am attempting to create a 5950nm route between JNB - SYD and, while my 747SP (5680nm range) can operate it with payload restrictions, the game will not allow me to assign any 747-300M (6000-6220nm range) to it.  The route editing and scheduling pages both show error messages claiming the 743M does not have adequate range for any payload.

Might be a good idea to look at the payload range charts for the plane, compare to still air distance each way, and check runway length....

As far as I can see, all of those factors appear to check out within the 743M performance envelop (both in default config, and as specifically configured in this case).

...Unless that comment was meant to be a specific dig against something I'm missing?

I happen to fly out of JNB in a different game world.
A quick check shows me that for a 743 the equivalent still air distance is 6985nm on the return leg (SYD-JNB)
So that is probably the reason why it does not work. As a matter of fact your 747SP probably also takes a payload hit on the return flight. You can see the ESAD when hovering over the “?” next to the flight time in the edit route interface. It is basically the distance adjusted for wind effects.

Also keep in mind that the 743M is a combi aircraft: the stated range is without cargo. You’d have to check the payload range chart to see up to what range you could bring a useful amount of cargo. But honestly JNB is not a cargo airport in this game, so I would not recommend a combi or dedicated freighter aircraft…

Kind regards,

NC
