not entirely true. square windows added pressure points to the airframe causing cracking after so many pressurization cycles.
yes, rivets and window design will be ok.. :P (or to say it properly, no such feature here yet)

Heh, why not? In my first full AWS game I used the BAe 146 as my main aircraft for domestic service out of DVX, I had over 100 of the funny little jets ;D Though I think the speed may have been adjusted downward between v1.1 and v1.2, making that seem slightly more crazy than it was at the time (not that it wasn't crazy at the time )
well in MT2 I used BAe-146's to expand until I had 40-odd of them flying from Kuala Lumpur. Only in the last game year have I finally retired the last of them

IT TAKES HOW LONG TO C CHECK AND D CHECK A380
and seriously only take 120mins turnaround to get 800+ people on and off an airbus, refuel the big ass thing , clean the cattle car, get the baggage on and off
GG to that airline
So obviously were all to busy F5ing the used market than to make motivators right?

To expensive. On routes less than 800 or so knots, give me the cheap Russian tin! It spends more time on the ground than burning fuel anyway, and those lease rates can not be beat.

Can't even compare the two aircrafts. The A320 has been in service quite a lot longer than the B777. More A320's are flying around compared to B777. As Take off and landings ( including approach) are the critical phases of flights it just makes your statement even more ridiculous. Obviously a short haul aircraft will have spent more time in these phases compared to a long haul aircraft.
they are both very good aircrafts. There is a reason for the A320 being the most successful narrowbody aircraft in the world. Outselling any other aircraft, compared to how long it has been on the market. There is a reason the B777 was selling so well and the airliners appear to love the aircraft.

Is Sami against the idea?
I don't think he has anything personal against Apple or their users.
But it is so expensive to develop a standalone app as it is.
There has already been some discussion on the forums, probably the feature request ones.
Have you tried using it on Safari? It works good enough, except the fiddly buttons!
Quote from: MattDell on March 01, 2011, 12:10:44 AM
:(
Is Sami against the idea?
I think the vast majority of users would be against it too.
The bottom line is that the time it would take to develop an iPhone app would be time subtracted from development of web based app. There are only so much in programming resources available...
If you look into the Features Request subject, you will see long list of features that the users would like to have in future versions. Given a choice between year+ detour developing for iPhone and enhancing existing web app, most users would opt for keeping AWS a web app. Developing the whole new app for iPhone, thand doing double work on 2 different versions is just not economical.
Also, the iPhone/iPad market is tiny. Android already surpassed it, and there is also a new Windows Mobile platform.... So there is a lot of fragmentation. And all these devices can already use AWS using their built in browser. I have used AWS on iPhone using the Safari browser. It is acceptable for a quick look, a few adjustments... But AWS really needs a fullsize screen for a good end user experience... A custom app would not really help that much...
Would sami develop the app himself?
Surely an outside contractor would be drafted in, as has been currently done for the new UI.
Then you need to develop an android app, blackberry app, windows phone app etc, I think a mobile version of the site is a much better idea. The current mobile version of the site is only really useful on a device the size of an iPad though, a smaller version could be more useful on phones. Also the route demand graphs do not have a "javascript fallback" right now which would make the mobile site pretty much feature complete.
No, there is no sense in making a dedicated app just because it's fashionable these days for every possible thing even when the same thing can be done (better?) with the regular browser.. And some other reasons, posted before:
https://www.airwaysim.com/forum/index.php/topic,27739.msg142619.html#msg142619
But in my mind it all comes down to basically the fact that AWS is not a simple gamey click-game but the interface is more complicated; and making it work properly in a same manner like other small apps is difficult if not impossible. Only thing what could work is some light version but that's again a bit of a waste then. (Converting some facebook type game into phones would be different thing; and majority of apps are just of that 'very simple' level..)

You have enough time to make your own app. Don't keep filling our heads with this 1.3 nonsense. We want APPS!
Nevermind...... :(

I would not take the financial risk to do it. Even supervising such development would take Sami's time away from web app development. I don't think the financial reward is there for a project like this to even break even.
And then, if there was such an app, any UI changes would need 2x work. Implementing and testing it on 2 different platforms.
And even Sami decided to write a platform specific version, iPhone would certainly not be a #1 choice. My guess is that 90% plus of users are on a Windows PC. Android would be a very, very distant 2nd, iPhone 3rd if not lower...
Long story short;

i was writing a great comment on the german board of the intelligence agency on facebook.
amnesty sucks, why: in a press release they have said, that it is not human, that a prisoner is
alone in his cell 23 hours. that is ridicolous that they are complaining it because here in germany it is absolutely normal when you are arrested while the police investigates.
was a comment to the case of mannig in the usa.....
finally it is not lawful just to delete opinions from a public forum. the argumentation, that this here is not public does not count, because everybody can register and the TOU/TOC are not over the state law. i have read it 5 minutes before. and because of that fact i have to get in a fight with some kids ?
no thanks.
the most redicolous was, that i have deleted my own statements and that kids were complaining than that......

Of course, Nobel Peace Prize is a complete joke. Think about it, the most famous terrorist of 20th century and an andvocate of use of violence is awarded the prize (Arafat) and the most famous advocate of peaceful resistance and non-violence (Gandhi) never receives the prize...

Really? The A380 and B747-8 are the big two's new widebodies. The F35 is going to be bought in massive numbers by the USAF even if it was made out of cheese and powered by baby seals, the A400M is going to be bought by smaller air forces in smaller numbers and is in a competitive market.

7-day scheduling FTW!!!
35 minute games days kill it for me. Takes months to get into a new game from the start if you wait and want a fighting chance to win it, and then you have to commit months to play the game. Sami, I really wish you would make the game days 25 minutes again. this is my biggest gripe.

Was the JT3 still a low bypass fan?
Bypass ratio > 1 = High bypass ratio
Bypass ratio < 1 = Low bypass ratio
The early turbofans had bypass ratios under 3 so although not technically "low BPR", still low compared to what we're used to today (5+)
The JT3C was actually still a turbojet, the D was the first 'fan in the series
And only on AWS would a the first reply to that demotivator have been techinical-led ;D

A good suggestion in my opinion, not sure it has been already mentioned:
If I fly LHR-SIN-SYD I can fill my planes with passengers interested in LHR-SYD, LHR-SIN AND SIN-SYD. In the game if I wanna take advantage of the kangaroo route I can not "use" the demand for the intermediate legs, correct? It would be interesting to possibly be able to sell tickets both for the full flights AND the legs of a flight with a technical stop.
Anyway it's an awesome simulation, well done!

And almost all of United's "one stop direct" flights have a change of aircraft, usually even with a change of gauge. It's just a marketing scam basically so they show up at the top of travel agents' booking systems as a "direct" flight rather than a connection.
A couple years ago I flew a UA "direct" flight on a single flight number TPE-NRT-ORD-BOS. At NRT the plane changed from a 777 to a 747; at ORD it changed from 747 to an A320. And since it's actually operated as separate flights, the second "leg" doesn't even wait if the first leg is delayed, and all those pax just get stranded until the next regularly scheduled flight. UA will not fly the 747 from ORD to BOS to accomodate its misconnecting pax, because of the low LF% and because the 747 needs to turn back to Asia almost immediately.

Actually I think it's the fortress hubs that allow UA to charge high prices on
low frequencies and have high LFs.
It's the competitive routes (LGA-ORD, JFK-SFO, etc.) that UA has to carpet-bomb with frequencies.
If you carpet-bomb your own fortress hub, your 10th flight gets 90% of its business by taking pax away from your first 9 flights (for example), which is not good for you.
Sorry about that judgement.
It just seemed ridiculous, and it is still is, since the flights aren't even all nonstop, or even thru.
So it is real, but crazy.

This is true with international to domestic "direct" service, but most of the domestic direct service is same plane. Most of these flights run into another problem, however. They will not be bookable because they are express flights operating hub to hub flights. In the CO days (and I think this still exists in the combined CO/UA pilots contract) hub to hub flights can not be operated by regional partners. Of all those flights, the only ones that should be bookable are the DEN-GRR-ORD (A319) and the non-stop, the rest is just clutter!
And Swiftus, yes, comedy thread. Was not meant to be as harsh as I was, so my apologies!

No need for such, there is a GPU, that gives you electricity (GPU = Ground Power Unit, not to be messep up with Graphics Processing Unit) and an ASU to help starting the engines, as a battery can't provide enough power on a mid sized jet (ASU = Air Starter Unit).
Pilots of a certain Russian airline flying into DUS mostly know neither of these... there is usually a representative at the gate, to translate English or German into Russian, so that "comrade commandir" understands what we (Ramp Agents) talk about... apparently the ASU was a mystery to them, until we told them to glance a look out of the starboard window ;D Long live this airline flying the silver jets named after 'important' Russian people...
at least they don't care for maintenance... you show them the damage or notify of a problem, pilot looks and says: nada prrrrroblemmm
3 cheers I only fly Star Alliance and never SkyTeam (that was the last hint on which airline I mean).

3 cheers I only fly Star Alliance and never SkyTeam (that was the last hint on which airline I mean).
No dispute here. It was just hot on the ramp in Denver. He had one engine running but needed the juice from it to start #2. So we had to wait until we were pushed back before they got us any relief from the temp in the cabin.

I have flown them on domestic routes a few times. Never disspointed with the material they put me on. TU154 and yak40. You're laughing your a** off when you see their protocols and how they work. No english anywhere to be found and what about someone without a boarding pass. Nah give em a handshake and welcome aboard ;D
Those were a few of the best flights in my life! for sure
Didn't say they are a bad airline, just said it is pain in the ass working with them, as communication proves even harder than with pilots of Turkish airlines (not only meaning TK here, but generally airlines from Turkey)... but screw it, I get money for doing it, so what do I care? I do my job as good as I can, and if the pilots do as well, the plane won't crash, never mind the rest ;)

Usually you don't have any engine being started before pushback, due to safety reasons. Especially when at a gate, because -at least big jets- can do serious harm to glass facades due to their power. In FRA they even have to be towed into gate, as they would pull off all the windows from the wall, if they rolled in on engine power.
Anyways, you got home safely, as we all see, so everything's alright, you didn't crash that is most important ;)

I was a trainee for an sales agent and had to work with libyan people. Only good about the libyans but if you wanted something done, waiting was key. Indeed communicating was nowhere to be found hehe.
Thats what I also love about the "commercial" side of aviation. (not the technical part). you have to deal with many different cultures and languages. It's both inspiring and sometimes very annoying :)

Well, in Italy, trying to get something done, I quickly learn phrase: "domani mattina".
Translates "tomorrow morning"... But it really means: "with some luck, maybe in a week"
Okay, need demotivators to continue. I am at work...

I can only imagine... F5 every 2secs ??...
Anyway, it payed off... I just caught the slots increase, and got all the slots I wanted... I skipped LHR tho (was already in negative with the FRA ones)... maybe next increase ;)
In response to the above 2 pics.. I just caught the LHR slot growth also, and spent $8 million :o on slots, filling gaps in my schedule, before unknown individual(s) wiped out all the remaining slots at once, within ~60 seconds.
Getting frustrated already..
sorry, it's been awhile...

Could system changes making that sort of behavior impossible be why that "someone" left AWS for months and is now bragging about their dominance in the ultra challenging and super competitive Beginners World? ::)

So, it other words, "you guys" have cheated (or attempted) in the past, some of you were banned for period of time or permanently (and some of you have tried to circumvent the ban by creating new accounts even), and you still find it somehow amusing to brag with such pictures. Any idea how much time all these antics of "you guys" have taken from the real development work, and so forth?
("you" refers to this group of people ..)
Nah. Cheating means the usage of something that's forbidden, and clearly it wasn't forbidden that time or otherwise half of active players would have been banned.
When the new rules were engaged I of course never used those tools anymore. Unlike Herman and two Elite Managers who got (termporarily) banned.
Bragging? Amusing? Mhm. I don't think so. It's just the old days without any valuation in the positive or negative. I just came across some old screenshots and read those thread, it simply fits the whole thing. The past isn't changed if everybody simply keeps ignoring things happened.

Yeah, I can imagine it took some hours to monitor the new rules and develop the call system. That's why I decided to stay to what I've done (unlime some others, like Herman and other Elite members, who tried to find funny excuses) and apologized in a serious way to you due to all the action (but not because it was not legal, because it was at this very moment), as well as adopted the new rules immediately.
Unfortunately your time schedule, new features (eye candy and useful) and things many people wait for (like the city based demand) are a big secret, so it's really tough to appraise things correctly.
Just to bring things in a right way:

I'm not "bragging" anywhere. If you refer to press releases, I suggest you take a look at the older press release forums. I always made lots of them, all of them in the same way and some clearly showing my mistakes. If you are curious about general skill things you are welcome to contact me via PM.
So, besides of that I'm just curious why you don't use half of your AWS time to help others (mostly new players) via PM and forums. Something that really contributes to the game.
Wow...same old Curse. A simple joke (since you seem to be unfamiliar with the term: joke/jōk/ Noun: A thing that someone says to cause amusement or laughter, esp. a story with a funny punchline) leads to personal attacks. Nothing has changed...good to know.
Oh, and please, for my amusement, which other Elite manager was banned again? I know of one incident 2 YEARS ago. Time to let it go, maybe?
Absolutely unreal ! I have to ask myself why I bother with this game with posts like that Curses. The period without you was peaceful and honest. Someone needs to lock this thread before he insults anyone else, or he turns someone else into a troll ! If I were mentioned in a bad light like he continually mentions Herman I would quit AWS on the spot. This crap died 2 years ago when SC crumbled, and the game has been better for it ever since....until your return !
I'm sorry if you meant it as a joke, I took it seriously.
That's always the same story. Some people here around, unfortunately sometimes including sami, always thinks the worst possible.
This one dude asked how it looked those times so I posted the screenshot. It's no amusement, it's no bragging, it's the reality of that time. Yeah, I made some funny sentence about I "found it somewhere". It's the same purpose the security manager of my airline in the press releases is named "Tor Ture". I just like this kind of chatting around with a funny note. If one doesn't like it, that's ok, last time I checked there were another 7 billion people around.
Also I can't see where a personal attack is. If you refer to the "contribute to the game" thing I'm serious. I came back and joined the Beginner's World, you know, and the first thing was I found three bugs in 24hrs. It's not to blame sami about them, it's to blame the people who play massively this game and weren't able to notice obviously things like there are two airports at Rome and both times Rome is written in a different way. Or why I got a bunch of "haha, your FAQ is outdated" messages but nobody else made an updated version of it. Nah, some people prefer to write stupid PM and wait for me to come back and fix it.
Some of my guides I used to post to people or in alliance forums wander through all alliances and skype (of course without any copyright notice, who cares about such little things?) and the people who benefit from it attack me every now and then but haven't posted them in public, too.
Maybe you now understand why I don't thought you made a joke and reacted the way I did. It's really not nice to need to respond to every single post this long because people aren't able to see things the most easiest way. If you hear hooves you should think of horses and not of Justin Bieber's mommy stolen Santa's sleigh.

(rare) Bans of users are not public information on any level, and we do not disclose such data, hence you have no real / full knowledge if someone has been on a ban or not. So please refrain on making such comments.
That's correct, I didn't get the information from your (AWS) side. But clearly the other involved party knew about the ban, too, and that's where I got my information from. But, as you wish, I will not repeat it in the public forum again.
It also makes me sad you accused me of bragging, amusement, F5 cheating and "not telling the truth"/"not informed" here. And in each point you were wrong. I don't care much about what others say, but your words really hurt me.

Add AZ to that group! They still owe me a 0 euro ticket which I booked on their Japanese site :'(

So my guess is that the 'Free Ticket - No Scam' didn't work for you Airline Master?
Now that is a demotivator.
Howdy.
I found the following, at time of writing it is still functional and working.
Alitali offers a discount of 25K Yen on its Japansese site. Booking a tickets AMS-FCO-AMS for example is less then 25K so it's basicly free.
Go to the Alitalia website and select the Japanese site, use Google chrome to translate (for you easy)
Just book whatever you want and make use of discount coupon PROMOJP and make sure it recalculates. If your total price is under 25K Yen you will not be charged.
Ofcourse I can not guarantee Alitalia will drop your booking afterwards, I have however, received my eticket with valid number and PNR.
Good luck! Curious what you will book!

The point is, based on European regulations, they have to honour my ticket. I paid with a legal voucher and there is no speaking of a fare mistake because that was a published one of 240 euro's.

Not every airline has a stellar MX department.
-Airbus101-

Realism in AWS 1.3
"Warning: This Donkey may be too small for this route."
"I don't care, it's taking off anyway!"
"Warning: No warning... but you better think like a hub operating US airline regardless wherever you are with no chapter 11 fear"
"Donkey flies away..."

Was just reading this thread while waiting for clock to tick towards on the hour for the game launch ...

Yes I got excited when I saw a new post here!
This topic's been dead for a while so heres another one
haha this thread rocks.
Not willing to let this thread go back to obscurity so here goes...
(https://www.airwaysim.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi720.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fww208%2Fknuckleheadswifty%2FAIRBUS%2520MEME_zps4gd0piph.png&hash=b97e5a65e108a58543a0a75db059f9062c210871) (http://s720.photobucket.com/user/knuckleheadswifty/media/AIRBUS%20MEME_zps4gd0piph.png.html)
that took forever to read...i liked the funny demotivators...and then there were real demotivators in there...
Time to revive this thread, in honor of the new lease-to-storage option ;D
Demotivator Thread never dies.
Keeping a brain-dead on a Respiration machine doesn't really make the patient alive again ;)
I felt like a little revival and humour. I think I have a few more of these in me. Possibly one of my favourite threads in AWS history.

Q: Why was the Mercure's range only 880NM?
A: To ensure that none of them ever left France.
Finaly made one. I should quit my job and become a flight attendant.
PS guys, still love the game and appreciate the work you all do.
I don't think that is too uncommon? At most airlines that would not even be top out pay.
Ours are just above the bread line.... maybe those with contracts from 40 years ago!

I know Sabena paid verry well, ad flight attendants made up to €2500 a month, almost 20 years ago

Finally got it to work, but something for those GW2 people out there.
^^ You spelled "1991" wrong :P
Well, got to get those orders in for the B737 Classic early! 8)

Bring back the demotivator thread now that memes are popular!!'
When you need to replace hundreds of propeller aircraft with faster jets and you try to set up 7-day-schedules with uncompatible time zones.

...and with ridiculous curfews at slot-poor airports.
What are they all doing ?
So at the moment, my airline has:
High Level Management . . . . . . . . 356
Middle Level Management . . . . . . 1861
Economics and Finance . . . . . . . . 4325
Corporate Communications . . . . . 3061
Human Resources . . . . . . . . . . . . 1898
Quality Department . . . . . . . . . . . 568
Flight Operations division . . . . . . . 46555
Route Strategies Dept. . . . . . . . . 4152
... yet it feels like as the CEO, I have to micro manage the most menial things in a most tedious way all the time. So I asked myself:
What the hell are all those 62,776 members of staff doing ? ? ? ...
Any new ones?
Here are a few attempts...
You have to type when posting a picture.
^ and 50,000 employees are overwhelmed when you take delivery of more than 3 used aircraft in a one week period :)
bring back the Demotivator Thread someone asks.
This thread is like 80s rock. It will never die.
We need new ones to keep this threat alive!

Could say the same thing for the 777/787
If it hasn't been added:
Silly D-check prices: $3.2m to overhaul a 13 yr old Trident in 1981 = $10m in today's money. Let's not even think about the check that follows after that. The curve is way too exponential.
Fuel prices kill most aircraft at some point anyways so why skew realism in this department?

hopefully true.
I wonder how this one is coming along.
The Swiftus doesn't like the credit system.
Couldn't resist... ;D

I need one (or a meme) for:
Call Market
66 new planes.
Clicks "Any aircraft type common to my current fleet"
No aircraft found from the market with these search keywords and/or selections.
the meme would be going into Greggs and finding all the sausage rolls gone. gutted. for the non-UK people you'll need to ask a Brit...
