Title: Oldest Aircraft?

Mine is 31.8 y.  A dash-8-100.  Cumulative profit last week   178 866 USD.  I have no plans to retire :P

do note: when the aircraft hit 35.5 years(+- half year.. forgot which way) it will automatically unschedule itself.

I Just sold off a B763ER that had 75.8k hours and about 25k cycles. Still have a couple in the fleet in the 50k+ hour range that I won't be replacing for another year or so. I could, but as long as they'll stay above 90-95% between services I'll keep flying them.

FYI, aircraft condition really has no impact on how long you can fly it. In general, maintenance costs start going up quickly around age 20-22 and then by age 28-29 they're pretty outrageous. At age 35, the plane isn't permitted to fly anymore (even though that's against the DC9 spirit....). Cycles/hours also don't matter much (might have a small impact on maint costs).

In previous GW3, I've seen a guy in the states flying 44-years old MD80 in 2030. Leased since 1995. He just had 6 of them(plus s***loads of 737 & A320). So there is no(or no more, I don't know) this 35 years limit. I wonder why he did not switch them to 737(maybe pure lazyness in a finishing game), as they surely must have costed him a lot.

Plus he had no flight beyond 2500NM. I'd have gone full C919, in this position. It was dirt cheap in that game.

Nope, not possible to FLY a 44yo plane. You can own/store it but can't operate it.. 35yo max.

How come? Surely if someone wants to run their company into the ground with ancient aircraft and huge maintenance costs...shouldn't the game let them?

As someone that prefers aircraft that are 35 years or older, I'm all for allowing them to continue to be flown for a long time. Certain types age better than others though -dc9s are fine for more or less forever while 757s maintain costs go through the roof after hmv4 (28 year equiv in game).)

That being said, if the age limit its removed then we will need to have cycle and hour limits per type as I have previously proposed but was shot down, as the airline regulators focus on those numbers rather than age.
