Slot costs?

I must say I am a bit surprised of the high slot costs in this scenario. Is this "normal" for this time period?
I have checked different routes from my HQ but almost all routes will cost me about 1,8 M$.. It is a very heavy cost initially and it doesn't change if I fly with my Fokker 100's or test a smaller a/c like a ATR.
Most of my trials have been in the 1950's so far and maybe this is normal in 2003?

They are on the high side in the start, on purpose, to slow down the initial growth a bit. The setup varies a bit from game to game.
