Just wondering which aircraft would be better for medium to long haul ops in the U.S.

can't answer directly but this is what I would look at and weigh up

1) when does a cargo version arrive
2) can it do both coasts from my bases
3) is it in a fleet that takes me to game end
4) is my base slot locked in which case the more seats the better
5) fuel usage

Out on a limb I'd say MD-80 series since it's less popular than 737s. Meaning it's probably cheaper to buy/lease.

Don't forget about A320

Its really a question of what line do you want to get in a320, 734, mad dog?

Neither!

"medium to long haul" .. you'll need MD-83s or B737-300s .... as Sami said, the MD83s will probably be cheaper and have more capacity - at the expense of higher fuel consumption though

I've always been a fan of the 737-400. I played with the MD-80s once out of Charlotte, and they struggled doing West Coast flights (2000 NM+). The 737-400 also has 12 more seats in all econ layout, switch those to 8 business class seats and you'll make more money. This all depends on where you're based out of and what you want to do with them.
Thanks,
B773
