[-] aircraft types allowed in DOTM early 80's
« on: January 13, 2020, 05:07:09 PM »
A lot of the airports in the US limit the size of aircraft to medium which should really be limited to large aircraft instead (like the 737 and DC9) as to reflect the reality of the late '70s and early '80s. All of the following airports had that aircraft size land there regularly. For most, you can simply verify this with Wikipedia if this is sufficient as a reliable source
PSP (1967), PSC, BLI (1985 expansion), RDM, GCN, PIA (1966), FCA (1981), EVV (88), SBP (75).

Are they only limited because infrastructure level is 1?

If so, they'll get an upgrade eventually. The algorithm for that got tweaked recently so more size 1 airports will move to size 2 and therefore allow large planes.

This is basically a bug with early start year games.  They start with a lot of low infrastructure airports, but the growth of infrastructure is about 1/10th of what it should be, in order to catch up with where late game start games are.

GW2 / HaF still has 240 airports in the US as size 1 in 1997.  330 in North America, 300 in Europe

When MT games start, in year 1998, only about 20-30 airports in the US are size 1.

There was a fix, which targets Size 1 airports, but it works too slowly, and it targets airports around the world equally, as opposed to favoring the US and European airports more, because they have demand...

Add a multiplier for these continents? Maybe Asia too?

the easy algorithm is to weight the 1->2 by continent by the ratio of Large aircraft based on the continent. s'easy.

acutally more granular code would be find the TOP level 1 airports closest to airports with Large aircraft at them, within still air range. Bit more SQL but quite doable.

So a level 1 airport that has 500 Large aircraft within 1000nm would be upgraded before one that has 15 aircraft within 1000nm..

A/C size limits are based on airport infrastructure level. So no need for any other systems
