Fuel Consumption
« on: April 24, 2009, 08:45:30 PM »
I've just been comparing the DC10-30 and 747SP to decide which way to take my fleet. I was hoping to buy 747SP's so that I could get 747-200's and -300's later without affecting my fleet comonality and I noticed that the SP has double the fuel consumption of the DC10?!

I figured they'd be a bit thirstier due to the extra engine, but to need double the fuel seems a bit much.  Is this right? In my mind I would imagined it would be about 22,000 lb/hr (with the DC10 at 15,000 lb/hr).

I've had a quick search on the web, but can't find any data to back up my reasoning, so I though I'd ask for you Guy's expert opinions  ;D

well i think they were both suited to different roles, and judging by the amount of SP's sold and amount of DC10's sold it would seem the SP is a thirsty bugger

It's probably right, I was just surprised by it  :)
